The tables below link to
25-page blocks of documents from the New Jersey Racial Profiling Archive.
These 91,000 pages of documents were released to the public on Monday,
November 27th, 2000 by the Office of the Attorney General of the New
Jersey Department of Public Safety, and have been the subject of intensive
scrutiny and media coverage since then. DRCNet's only modifications
have been to: 1) redact (mark over) certain names and identifying information,
in cases where we felt that Internet distribution would present privacy
issues; and 2) divide up the documents into (mainly) 25-page blocks
and lower the resolution to 150 dpi for space and download time concerns.
This redistribution of public documents was neither requested nor opposed
by the Attorney General.
The documents linked below
are in PDF format. If your browser doesn't recognized them, you'll need
to download
and install the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Because the Attorney General's
office provided the documents in the form of graphical scans of whole
pages, the files are fairly large, each one at least a few hundred megabytes,
even at the lower resolution. Hence, they may take a few minutes to
download, especially if you are using a conventional modem. We hope
to provide descriptions of the content of individual files in the near
future, as well as text OCRs in order to reduce download times.
With regard to the aforementioned
redaction of certain names, addresses and other identifying information,
we have used our best judgment on a case by case basis, striving to
protect individual privacy, but without unnecessarily deleting information
that is already extremely likely to be discussed publicly. If you spot
places where you feel we should have marked out personal information
but didn't, or where we did remove names and you think we didn't need
to, or if you individually have a legitimate need to see an unaltered
page, please write us at [email protected],
and we will take your comments or request into consideration.
The archive is divided into
11 sections, the list and descriptions of which were provided by the
Attorney General's office. We hope to provide further information to
guide readers to interesting content within the archive, and will do
so as time and resources permit. If you would like to provide information
to help with this process, please write to us at [email protected].
We will post occasional announcements relating to this archive in our
free, weekly, online drug policy
newsletter. We hope you will subscribe
to keep in touch with this and other drug war issues.
