(renamed "Drug War Chronicle" effective issue #300, August 2003) Issue #79, 2/19/99
"Raising Awareness of the Consequences of Drug Prohibition" ERRATA: Last week's article on the Mexican drug war and the congressional certification debate stated that Mexico was decertified last year but granted a national security waiver (http://www.drcnet.org/wol/078.html#totalwar). This was incorrect -- Mexico was in fact certified, though amid controversy and opposition from some members of Congress. It was Colombia that was decertified last year and granted the waiver. A SPECIAL THANKS to those
of you who responded to our appeal for non-tax-deductible donations to
our 501(c)(4) lobbying network to enable us to continue our exciting campaign
to reverse the drug provision in the Higher Education Act of 1998.
Your generosity has brought the organization thousands of much-needed lobbying
dollars. This, together with other new funding, will allow the HEA
reform project and our other lobbying work to continue -- for now.
Continuing support from our readers is needed to ensure that the campaign
can continue at full blast all the way to the end. If you've been
reading DRCNet but haven't yet made a donation, please consider taking
a moment today to support the cause! To donate, visit our online
registration form at http://www.drcnet.org/drcreg.html
to print out a form to mail in or submit your credit card info. Or
just mail your check or money order to: DRCNet, 2000 P St., NW, Suite 615,
Washington, DC 20036. (Filling out the online form first will save
us typing time later.) Donations to the Drug Reform Coordination
Network are not tax-deductible. You can also support DRCNet by participating
in the iGive online fundraising program (formerly eyegive). Register
to support DRCNet at http://www.igive.com/html/ssi.cfm?CID=1060
(we earn $2 immediately when you do), and visit the iGive home page at
http://www.igive.com and point and click
up to five times a day to earn much needed funds for the organization!
Also, tax-deductible contributions supporting our educational work can
be made to the DRCNet Foundation.
