Obama Needs to Slap Down His Rogue DEA Chief
DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart told a congressional committee today her agency is "fighting back" against Justice Department policies tolerating marijuana in states where it is legal. The president needs to dump her, or at least remind her who the boss is.

DEA Administrator Tells Congress Her Agency Is “Fighting Back” Against Administration’s Tolerance of Marijuana Legalization
At a Wednesday House subcommittee hearing, DEA director Michele Leonhart publicly opposed Department of Justice position on legal marijuana in Colorado and Washington and warned of dangers of marijuana legalization … to pets.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Michele Leonhart, administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), repeatedly criticized the Obama administration at a hearing Wednesday on the DEA’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
In a memo released in July 2013, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it would not interfere with the effective implementation of laws regulating the cultivation and sale of marijuana for adults in Colorado and Washington. When asked by Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) during a Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies subcommittee hearing whether the Obama administration’s tolerant views toward legal marijuana had affected morale at the DEA, which is a branch of the DOJ, Leonhart replied that “our agents are fighting back against those messages. It makes us fight harder.” She had earlier criticized the DOJ for a perceived delay in issuing a response to Washington and Colorado’s new laws, claiming there was “a lot of confusion in those 296 days.”
Leonhart also claimed that public opinion in Colorado is turning against the initiative making marijuana legal, yet two recent polls suggest Colorado residents are more supportive of the law than ever before. A Public Policy Polling survey from March showed that 57% of Colorado voters think marijuana should be legal, and a Quinnipiac poll from February showed 58% support for the state’s legalization law. It was supported by 54.8% of voters in 2012. Finally, Leonhart claimed legalization would be dangerous to pets in Colorado and warned of a surge in veterinary clinic visits due to dogs consuming marijuana.
The Marijuana Policy Project has launched a Change.org petition calling on the president to fire Leonhart and replace her with someone who will base decisions on science and evidence instead of politics and ideology. The petition currently has more than 29,000 signatures and is available at https://www.change.org/petitions/president-barack-obama-fire-anti-marijuana-dea-administrator-michele-leonhart.
"Administrator Leonhart’s comments were shocking," said Dan Riffle, MPP director of federal policies. "The DEA is not simply ignoring the administration’s policies with respect to regulating marijuana, but actively undermining them. Publicly criticizing and questioning the competence of your supervisor would get anyone fired in the private sector. It’s frankly astounding to me that Ms. Leonhart is still employed and American taxpayers continue to foot her $165,000 salary to publicly campaign against the president’s policies. As more Americans recognize that marijuana is safer than alcohol, more think we need to start treating it that way. Michele Leonhart is standing in the way, and it is time for her to go."
Yes, it is time for Michele to go. I would nominate someone like Ethan Nadelmann or Eric Sterling to replace her, but honestly, Zippy the Pinhead would do as well.

The DEA is an organization
The DEA is an organization that has done more harm than good. They are starting to feel the same heat that they have applied to many innocent people. They have ruined a lot of peoples lives. Many have lost jobs.
Now it's time for them to feel the pain by putting them out of work. Think of the savings. Legalize tax and regulate.
How much more rope does she need to hang herself?
More to the point, how much longer will the (putative) Chief Executive tolerate repeated gross insubordination from an underling? Is he that weak that he'll let the tail wag the dog...again? She serves at his pleasure, not the other way around.
Leonhart: Actually, it Makes us Fight Sick Children Harder
Marijuana Stops Child's Severe Seizures
DEA’s Michele Leonhart Goes Rogue
In February of 2009 Eric Holder vowed to end DEA raids on Medical Marijuana. In his statement he said, “the Justice Department will no longer raid medical marijuana clubs that are established legally under state law.” But left in place from the dubya era is Michele Leonhart. Ms. Leonhart is defying the administrations ban on raids against legal growers. These are people who have applied for a license and are sanctioned by local or State governments which allow them to grow and sell medical marijuana.
DEA Chief: Marijuana Legalization ’Just Makes Us Fight Harder’
Wolf then asked Leonhart whether DEA agents have been feeling demoralized as a result of the legalization.
DEA: Think Of The Dogs Before You Legalize Pot
Michele Leonhart, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, has a message for those considering legalizing marijuana: Please, think of Fido.
Tell that to SWAT!
Ganjawar Puppycide
just another in a long line of dead dogs resulting from a small marijuana bust.
Yes, it’s past time to eliminate the DEA dwr
The DEA is becoming more anachronistic every day, and yet it has tremendous power and has historically been almost completely unaccountable.
They’re fighting hard now, though, to maintain their position. They know that without marijuana as part of their scope, they couldn’t get close to the same amount of budget they have now.
Here we go again. Species by species of reefer madness.

Veterinary marijuana?
With pet owners already using the drug as medicine, veterinarians need to join the debate
Miles was dying.
The 12-year-old black Labrador Retriever–type dog had developed a splenic tumor that eventually metastasized to the liver and lungs. Miles was given two months to live and tramadol for the pain.
But, Miles’ owner didn’t like the way tramadol affected her pet. “Every time we gave it to him, he would just sleep; he wouldn’t even move. He’d just lay there like he was dead,” said Denise, who asked that her real name not be used.
Sitting outside a West Hollywood, Calif., café with Miles at her feet, Denise recalls how a friend suggested she try a glycerin tincture of marijuana that is sold as a pet medicine in dozens of licensed medical marijuana dispensaries throughout Los Angeles. Within an hour after she gave Miles the tincture, the dog’s appetite returned, and he was no longer vomiting. “It couldn’t have been a coincidence,” Denise said.
Vet recommends medical marijuana for pets in pain
This Feb. 8, 2013 photo released by Vet Guru Inc., shows Dr. Douglas Kramer and his dog Mason inside his mobile surgical truck during an application of cannabis oil to the skin of Mason who had already undergone multiple surgeries to remove cancerous growths. Stories abound about changes in sick and dying pets after they’ve been given marijuana. There is a growing movement, led by Los Angeles veterinarian Doug Kramer, to make it more widely available. Others, however, urge caution until there’s better science behind it. (AP Photo/Oscar Anaya, Vet Guru.. Inc.)

Sanjay Gupta Endorses Medical Marijuana
"We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my own role in that," Gupta, who penned an article for Time in 2009 titled "Why I Would Vote No on Pot," writes for CNN.com. "I didn't look hard enough, until now. I didn't look far enough. ... I was too dismissive of the loud chorus of legitimate patients whose symptoms improved on cannabis.
Sanjay Gupta Backs Medical Marijuana, Apologizes
"Long before I began this project, I had steadily reviewed the scientific literature on medical marijuana from the United States and thought it was fairly unimpressive," wrote Gupta. "Well, I am here to apologize."
Dr. Sanjay Gupta: I Was Wrong
A recent survey in the New England Journal of Medicine also indicated support for medical marijuana. When told about a hypothetical case of a 68-year-old woman with breast cancer that had spread to her lungs, chest and spine, 76 percent of doctors surveyed said they would favor the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Gupta says he was too dismissive of the "loud chorus" of legitimate patients whose symptoms improved with help from medical marijuana. He now says, "I mistakenly believed the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance [a category of dangerous drugs] because of sound scientific proof."
"They didn't have the science to support that claim, and I now know that when it comes to marijuana neither of those things are true," wrote Gupta, citing patient cases including a 3-year-old whose seizures were dramatically reduced from 300 a week to three a month with medical marijuana's help.

Is The DEA Legalizing THC?
You betcha, If a pharmaceutical product contains THC extracted from the marijuana plant, that would be a legal commodity. But if you or I possessed THC extracted from the marijuana plant, that would remain an illegal commodity.
Wait, it gets even more absurd.
Since the cannabis plant itself will remain illegal under federal law, then from whom precisely could Big Pharma legally obtain their soon-to-be legal THC extracts? There’s only one answer: The federal government’s lone legally licensed marijuana cultivator, The University of Mississippi at Oxford, which already has the licensing agreements with the pharmaceutical industry in hand.

"Arbitrary and capricious" is legal language that was used by DEA Administrative Law Judge Francis Young in 1988 to conclude that DEA was obligated under the Controlled Substances Act to reschedule marijuana as a prescription medicine. DEA Chief Administrator Robert Bonner proceeded to arbitrarily and capriciously disregard Judge Young's well researched and reasoned decision, which the Act allowed him to do.

Who was it that said " first they ignore you , then they laugh at you , then they fight you and you win " ? Seem`s to ring very true with Cannabis prohibition . Ms . Michele does not even know if Cannabis is less or more harmful than heroin , according to her testimoy in a hearing to Rep. Polis . She refused to answer the question because she knows that the common sense answer would destroy her career . Incompetence seems to be the order of the day . Who else is going to pay her $167k a year to avoid basic job responsibility ? She also has a very dark and evil appearance about herself .
we need to bring these cowards to justice
The life and times of the modern day pot smoker
The life and times of the modern day pot smoker after seeing their movie reefer madness I knew their science was fraud. Seeing their propaganda telling the people of their scientific study where 5 people smoked a joint 2- are dead,1 -blew his mind 1- is in jail and the other one well they just don’t know. I knew these were outright lies and figured, this is America work hard play by the rules and I could prove their science was fraud, I had been driving since the age of 14 and getting stoned or a regular bases so I set out to prove their lies, not one of my drivers Ed courses did I go to unless I smoked a joint prior to going into class, getting high in the morning was just normal, I didn’t want them to come up with some claim that I wasn’t stoned so to mitigate any question I made sure every time before I went to class that I smoked a joint or I didn’t go to class after taking the class and passing my driver’s test I boasted on how I proved their science was fraud , but they insisted that I could not prove that I got stoned every day and any of my witness would instantly become criminal, so I had to admit that they were right, they said that the pot smoker was just stupid and again I thought I could prove them wrong so without studying I dropped out of school smoked a joint took my equivalency test and passed becoming one of the first ones to graduate from my class and again I said I prove their science was fraud, but again they came back saying the pot smoker was just a lazy criminal and would never do anything so I spent the next 30 years priding myself on hard work, honesty and good credit, then I became a land lord and land owner after 30 years of sabotaged socially, emotional and financially I could now sit back and prove beyond any reasonable doubt that their science was fraud, but then-- fire felt better that my deodorant, they dusted my bills with their poison and my bills burned like battery acid they put their poison in my water, food, steamer towels and all the while they were telling me why don’t you sell your land your home your bought and paid for retirement what does a pot smoker need his retirement bought and paid for , they don’t just steal camp Zoë, they don’t just attack cancer patients and scoliosis patients for nothing maybe the torture and terror will stop, if I sold everything besides it cost $ 400.00 to test a product and you have to know what you’re looking for since they make the test they make the machines that take the test and since man only see 1 billionth of the true reality I didn’t realize what I was up against, trying to get decent weed became almost impossible they don’t just make designer steroids for the jocks and all the crack and meth that hit the streets replaced the honest pot sellers- even Time magazine points out that the true science of weed was being subverted but they couldn’t even get a debate going I knew their science was fraud but once they place their lie against you, you are forever guilty, they sent me around the world to find a joint, I was supposed to be dead and buried under their lies but by the grace of god I survived to warn the rest of the world what these gay cowards are really doing to the people read more in the book About Christians and Freedom @Amazon.com

Traitor
The woman has shown herself to be vocally and legally opposed to the President of the USA.She has said that his statements have caused her and her agency to work harder to show their complete disdain for the Presidency and for the President. How is this not treason?Even if it's not treason it's a total denial of direction from the WH.It is,in fact, actively working against the direction set by the President, himself. At the very least she must be removed from office for cause. That means no payoff of any kind.
DEA Overreach
Meanwhile, the DEA has set arbitrary limits on LEGAL prescriptions for those with chronic pain. The "war on drugs" now includes patients who need these painkillers to function as best we can every day. The reclassification of hydrocodone and similar painkillers was due to trumped up charges regarding the "abuse" of hydrocodone. There was NEVER any proof that hydrocodone and similar painkillers are the street drug of choice among illegal users. The ONLY people who have been effected by the reclassification and subsequent limitations have been chronic pain sufferers and our doctors--who are now afraid to write prescriptions for these medications as ALL the DEA has done is "suggest guidelines" for prescription limitations, which, of course, they can revisit at any time against any doctor.
These limitations are not based on the needs of individual patients--just an "average" the DEA concocted all on its own. There is NO METHOD of appeal. The is NO METHOD by which patients or doctors can challenge the DEA's "suggested guidelines" and doctors who try are risking their licenses and their practices, so, of course, they do not.
This Director is a FASCIST and should be struck down and the DEA MUST provide some means of appeal to patients who do not fit within their guidelines.
I have obstructive spinal stenosis--a congenital DETERIORATING condition which generates neural pain EVERY TIME I MOVE A MUSCLE. As I get older, the pain will INCREASE! And yet, my painkiller dosages for the last three years have actually been CUT BACK thanks to the DEA and my particular individual case not fitting within their "suggested guidelines". I have contacted the DEA, Medicare, Social Security and even my Senator--all to no avail.
In another year at current painkiller levels, I will require help to do the simplest things around my home. And it's all so STUPID! With the correct dosage of opiate, my ability to move would be greatly improved, as would the quality of my life and my ability to care for myself.
Of course I am an opium addict! I am a chronic pain patient and will require these painkillers for the rest of my life! That I and my doctor can be so interfered with by a gov't department with NO recourse or appeal is fascist. The government is not supposed to be able to invade my LEGAL private life like this. I have been convicted of being a drug abuser without a trial, a hearing, a conviction, nothing! I have been adjudicated not as an individual citizen, but as the member of an identifiable CLASS--which is ILLEGAL and UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
But what can I do? My own Senator could not help me.
This is a travesty!
