Guess Who Opposes Drug Testing Welfare Applicants?

Posted in:

Guess who besides us and the ACLU opposes drug testing welfare applicants? Former US drug czar Gen. Barry McCaffrey, that's who.

One reason is that a lot of veterans return from foreign wars with PTSD, and are vulnerable to addiction. Florida isn't offering treatment for people testing positive, they're just denying them benefits under the program (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, specifically, not every welfare program).

I thought that"welfare

I thought that"welfare testing" was put to bed by the Florida Experiment where the Florida Governor tried to make Political Hay from the suggestion Welfare recipients were a bunch of Drug users and needed to be tested and restricted from benefits, should they test "using Welfare money" to support their Drug Habit.

Test results were 2.5% showed drugs in their system,,of welfare recipients. And the  outside of the welfare program, in the general population was 8-10% of the general population in the study  in So. Florida..

The cost was to come to some 150 million$ for testing alll Welfare(Florida) recipients and the savings at 2.5% was to be 75K$.

At some point, common sense would bring the realization into these drug-welfare discussions as to the conclussion,  one cannot afford drugs on welfare..97.5%.. and drugs won't have a higher % with added medical concerns..PTSD or other concerns where welfare is an issue. But it sounds good, and after all, getting testing for all welfare percipients adds jobs, it would be Federal, so the origination of funding would be Fiat, Taxes would have to pay for the program of testing the participants to a federal program paid for with taxes..... does this seem circular, just another Federal oversight?
