Obama Administration Issues New Threats Against Medical Marijuana

After several ominous months, Obama's Dept. of Justice has issued a formal statement backing away from the President's pledge to respect state medical marijuana laws:
A number of states have enacted some form of legislation relating to the medical use of marijuana. Accordingly the Ogden memo reiterated to you that prosecution of significant traffickers in illegal drugs, including marijuana, remains a core priority, but advised that it is likely not an efficient use of federal resources to focus enforcement efforts on individuals with cancer or other serious illnesses who use marijuana as part of a recommended treatment regimen consistent with applicable state law, or their caregivers. The term “caregiver” as used in the memorandum meant just that: individuals providing care to individuals with cancer or other serious illnesses, not commercial operations cultivating, selling or distributing marijuana.
The Department’s view of the efficient use of limited federal resources as articulated in the Ogden Memorandum has not changed. There has, however, been an increase in the scope of commercial cultivation, sale, distribution and use of marijuana for purported medical purposes. For example, within the past 212 months, several jurisdictions have considered or enacted legislation to authorize multiple large-scale, privately-operated industrial marijuana cultivation centers. Some of these planned facilities have revenue projections of the millions of dollars based on the plant cultivation of tens of thousands of cannabis plants.
The Odgen Memorandum was never intended to shield such activities from federal enforcement action and prosecution, ever where those activities purport to comply with state law. Persons who are in the business of cultivating. selling, or distributing marijuana, and those who knowing facilitate such activities, are in violation of the Controlled Substances Act, regardless of state law. Consistent with the resource constraints and the discretion you may exercise in your district, such persons are subject to federal enforcement action, including potential prosecution. State laws or local ordinances are not a defense to civil enforcement of federal law with respect to such conduct, including enforcement of the CSA. Those who engage in transactions involving the proceeds of such activity may also be in violation of federal money laundering statutes and other federal financing laws.
The Department of Justice is tasked with enforcement existing federal criminal laws in all states, and enforcement of the CSA has long been and remains or core priority,
So the Obama Administration's idea of "efficient use of limited federal resources…has not changed," except insofar as they didn't actually want anyone to think it was ok to provide medicine to sick people. How silly of us. Maybe when Obama said things like, "I will not be using justice department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue," he just meant that he wouldn't personally be running around in a kevlar vest and sticking an AR-15 in anyone's face. What the DEA does with its massive budget, however, appears to be another matter entirely.
Whatever one expected to come of Obama's medical marijuana promises, there is no denying that today's events constitute a disturbing departure even from the vague language of the '09 Holder Memo. Obama chose to present himself as a reformer on this issue, and he now richly deserves the inevitable condemnation that comes with opposing 80% of the American public on a basic human rights issue. The war on medical marijuana continues and so must the fight for justice.

And all you suckers...
would you rather have had
would you rather have had mccain and palin in that office?
didn't think so...
McCain or Palin
At least neither of them would have given anti-prohibitionists any hope to later pull the rug out from under them, like Obama did. You're fooling yourself if you think Obama is any better than either of them (or vice versa -- 6 of one, half dozen of the other). The one person who has NEVER stinted on consistently holding to his principles and who WOULD give us an end to the "war on drugs" is Ron Paul. He was the only one calling for an end to the drug war in the last election, too, but you all allowed the media to convince you he was "fringe" and "not electable". ANYONE is electable if people would ignore the media and vote for that person. So if you truly want an end to the drug war, Ron Paul is your only opportunity (Johnson has already backed off from his former "full legalization of all drugs" position which he held while governor, so he might be good as VP, but not good as POTUS, at least not for reformers) this election. Vote for him if you truly want change and stop letting the media tell you who is electable, remember the media have an agenda and it is not compatible with yours!
The US Government is SOOOO
The US Government is SOOOO hypocritical. They want to go invade the Middle East and tell THEIR government that they should not be forcing their women to wear burkhas, while waging war on citizens of the US by telling them they CAN'T smoke pot.
And what happens? The US Government creates a web of warnings about being TOO negative or issuing threats against them, which creates a censorship cloud between my brain and my fingertips, and it stifles communication. If things are so bad that politicians are getting death threats, why aren't they seeing it as a wake-up call? Why aren't they getting the message that people are fed up with their tyranny? Why do they think we deserve to live under such oppressive laws? If they were not oppressive tyrants, nobody would be threatening them! They JUST. DON'T. GET IT! People want to be left alone, not to murder and steal, but just to be able to enjoy their cannabis without fear of US government-initiated terrorism against US citizens, which is exactly what the drug war is. It's just like burkhas and forced circumcision...same song, different beat.
And they are TOOOOOOOO STOOOOOPID to be politicians! Some of them actually believe legalization will STRENGTHEN drug cartels. Oh my god! People with views that out of touch with reality should be in MENTAL HOSPITALS not GOVERNMENT!!!
I think the government is using the anti-legalization stance to give them an excuse to continue going after drug cartels in Mexico and beyond. If drugs were legal, what excuse would they have to go after them? Well, they could use murder as the reason, but it's the U.S.'s fault that drug cartels exist at all! The United States created the conditions that allowed drug cartels to arise. If there was no prohibition, what is a drug cartel today would actually be a legitimate business that does not need standing armies just to carry on business as usual. The politicians who don't hold that view should be taken out of office, whether by vote or a freak tornado sucking them out of Washington and into the Atlantic Ocean.
Violence of any kind makes me want to cry. What makes me cry even more is being so non-violent that all I can do is sit here helplessly while I'm raped of my own life by my own government. What a bunch of ignorant, arrogant, narcissistic pinheads! GET OUT OF OFFICE AND GO SEE A MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR!!!
I so agree
especially the part about politicians being so out of touch with reality that they belong in mental hospitals, not government. I concur, and would apply that to most members of congress and legislature (Ron Paul seems to be the only sane person among them). I think we, their constituents (their employers), should force them to go have a mental evaluation and to release the results to us, the same way they force employers to force their employees to go get a UA (which is ineffective, at best, at determining current impairment) and to have them removed from office if they are shown to be out of touch with reality or to be a megalomaniacal sociopath (which they would have to be to want to rule over and micromanage the daily activities in the lives of all people). In fact, ALL candidates should have to be mentally evaluated before being allowed to run for ANY government position and prevented from any position of power if there is any indication of that kind of mental illness.
And a drug test! They want
And a drug test! They want to treat everyone else like criminals...they should be subjected to the same treatment! I bet 2/3's of Congress is vaping the Chronic! Bunch of HYPOCRITES! They are going to sit there and say that marijuana has no medicinal value...so why is it legal in Washington, D.C.? Go figure...
Yep
The fucked up thing is, I have a feeling more people than not (in positions of extreme power) know exactly what is going on and are willfully ignorant. The only thing that matters is money and the pharmeceutical industrial complex.
Willful Ignorance
When viewed through the corrupted eyes of these powerbrokers it should be quite apparent that what may appear to be "stupidty" or "ignorance" is really not as it seems; while you may not benefit from it they certainly do.
*face palm*
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.......
Obama has betrayed everyone
Obama has betrayed everyone who voted for him. He lied about ending the wars; he has sided with the banks and Wall Street instead of the people; he is destroyng the Constitution and destroying our freedoms instead of the "change" everyone expected. And now he is betraying the marijuana people.
Who is gonna vote for this creep now? Who still believes in Obama? The only way this guy gets back in would be due to voter fraud.
Let's Give Big Pharma Control
Tell big Pharma it's their dime. Then we can all be buzzed instead of all these reuptake inhibitors that they sell now as antidepressants! I can't wait to see a medical commercial where a side effect is NOT death. But of course, someday, someone may die from marijuana. What a freakin' joke.
Are we pro marijuana people not collectively intelligent enough to figure our how to get a legal high on marijuana for responsible adults? I feel I was born in the wrong time. Can not get high because I have to work. Although when I did get high on my off time and worked never got hurt or missed work or got in trouble. What a joke. Let's figure out this puzzle and solve it people!
"The only way this guy gets back in would be due to voter fraud"
Yes, one would wish that that was true, but consider Michele Bachmann as a candidate - I think a lot of people would hold their noses and vote for Mr. Obama. This is the reason for those terrible candidates - so that people are forced to vote for a bad candidate.
heres the way i see it. as
heres the way i see it. as far as canidates go ron paul has indroduced bills to end federal enforcement except state and country borders.johnson(cant remeber the first name off hand) was on a news interview twice were he has stated that marijuana should be legal and the drug war needs reform. no wboth those are rebublicans both presidential canidates. havnt heard rick perry or michelle bachmans take on it but considering there both rebublicans like the others i would say its seems almost all the canidates have the same views accross the board and michelle bachman would in my opinion be better than obahma or any other democrat in office. true clinton was a demo but i think the demo view has gone the other way since then and the rebublicans are gonna be the ones to clean it up.im an independent and would love an independent canidate win but its not a likely event ever so im in a lose lose situation.but the rebub have my vote this 2012 election.
We need some Texas wwagger - Rick Perry seems promising.
Months before liberal Congressman Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, teamed up with Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, to back an effort to de-criminalize marijuana, Perry was making essentially the same point in his book, writing that Washington has greatly overstepped its bounds by making pot use a federal crime.
“It ought not be the federal government’s job telling them they can’t do it,” Perry said in that November interview. “I totally and completely disagree with the concept of legalizing marijuana, but it ought to be California’s decision.”

It is time to stop playing
It is time to stop playing their game of Coke vs. Pepsi. People don't have to vote for the lesser of two evils, they can vote for Ron Paul. "They" would have you believe that Ron Paul does not have a chance. People are waking up and seeing the scams created by the the establishment. Freedom, liberty, that can easily be packaged up and sold. Ron Paul could surprise everybody!
Don't be a TV News chump -- Vote Ron Paul 2012!
I'll just leave this here...

Vote in the Republican primary if you want real reform.
flip an flop
2008 "change" has turned into 2011 "flip flop". Common sense for 2012 = Ron Paul. The "Sheeple" need to wake up. Is plant "oppression" legal? Surely not... can i get a brown-shirt in xxl?.....
War on Plants
Congress will say that the Intersate commerce clause gives them the authority to enforce cannabis prohibition. They will also say that Cartels and gangs make billions as a result of their prohibition. First you create the gangs, then you nurture their activities. The politicians now have an "enemy" and the "cops" have something to do. A majority of U.S.A. Congress folks, as well as most American^s, have yet to figure out what the hell is going on....... What kinnda message does it send to kids when they see alcohol being sold openly at major league baseball games? On an on an on...........HYPOCRISY....................
big pharma big garden
a commercial grow of thousands of plants? =
medical marijuanas own big pharma.
c'mon people how long would it be before the commercial centers would be the ONLY place to get your medicine? once up and running their success would mark the end of the smaller dispensary:(
Likely true
and variety and quality would go down, while price goes up.
i'm glad to see u maybe
i'm glad to see u maybe losing a bit of youthful political naivete, scott. hopefully next time some slick pol-con (politican-con artist) throws a few weak and ultimately empty words of encouragement your way, u'll be wiser in with-holding trust. as far as writing the white house, u think a handful of passionately indignant citizens means a rat's ass to a politician who knows how to placate the masses while giving them a royal screwing? u still got some learning to do. waste of time. obama doesn't give a rat's ass about us 'little people'. no one in his position has for quite some time now, and i think it's utter foolishness to expect things to change any time soon. thus, it's a waste of time. entrenched power is our enemy, revolution our friend.
OBAMA THE PUPPET MASTER(DISGRACING US ONE DAY AT A TIME)
Are President is just another P.O.S. , elected because of his color...dont get me wrong this past election was historical the fact a african american obtained the presidency but the historicality stops there. People voted for him based on race alone and thats whats wrong with are country, everybody was more concerned about getting a black president in office, that they didnt read through the bullshit and realize obama would be bad for are country and hes proving that day by day with broken promises. Obama is a coward, A disgrace to our country and a disgrace to the constitution. Vote RON PAUL 2012, FOR REAL CHANGE, CHANGE WE CAN COUNT ON, RON PAUL HAS ALWAYS STOOD BY HIS WORD AND THE CONSTITUTION, SOMETHING YOU HAVENT SEEN MANY PRESIDENTS DO IN THE PAST 10-20 YEARS..PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PEOPLE VOTE RON PAUL ITS TRULY ARE NATIONS ONLY HOPE OF SURVIVING.
There's just no choice
Obama turned out to be a liar and a hypocrite.Palin is a total moron and Bachman is cut from the very same low end of the gene pool cloth. What is needed is a candidate that does what he says and has true charisma.Dr.Paul can't even get Faux Noise to give him the time of day.His second place finish in the Iowa straw poll has to be the least reported near victory in history.Bachman, who was first, bought 6000 votes to Paul's zero. They finished less than two hundred votes apart.Paul could win but the Republicans and their pet TV station would never let the news get out. They are too invested in the corporate takeover and are on board only if a candidate is riding that train.
Ron Paul will end the drug war
Ron Paul is the only candidate running in 2012 that has supported the end of marijuana prohbition for years. He has attempted to pass legislation on multiple occasions to do so, but unfortunatley the rest of the republican party is in too deep with the pharmaceutical companies and are fighting it. Ron Paul is our only chance to end the failed drug war in 2012. If you are a registered democrat or Independent, you have to change your political party and vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. After he gets voted for the Republican nomination you can change your party affiliation back again. It only takes a couple of clicks on the internet to change your party. It's worth it for the cause! Vote Ron Paul in 2012!
wise up
The bosses, political, civil and military are concerned with one thing only: getting and holding power. If you think otherwise about the bosses in your company, in your union, in your church, in your social club, on your condo board, or in any political office you are delusional and have bought into the BS they put out to secure your co-operation. The real money goes straight to those whose job it is to keep the boss in power. You get only such crumbs they need to pass out to keep you from seeing things straight and not a penny more if they can help it.
In the unlikely case of a boss being swayed by any moral considerations, such as a Ron Paul maybe, he will never hold enough power to overcome political payoffs and corruption. Doing good always ends up doing well first and foremost for the do-gooders, their pockets, power and prestige. Democrat, Republican, Socialist, Communist, Catholic, Protestant, Islamist, in the end all the same in practice, only the advertising they use to get your support differs.
So unless you have a significant personal financial or political interest in the outcome, your loyalty is misplaced. Unless your job is to keep the boss in his job, your efforts principally on his behalf are wasted. Tend your own garden, Vote the rascals out( and they're all rascals) every chance you get. The new ones won't be any better, but they may get the idea they need at least to take less of the fruits of your labor for themselves and their cronies and to make themselves useful to others a little more often. When all else fails, they might consider doing the right thing as necessary to keep them in power. But only after all else fails.
