With more than 80% of precincts reporting, South Dakota's medical marijuana initiative is losing 60-40. This is a substantial drop from 2006, when the initiative won 48%.
Before worrying too much, remember that 2006 is the year the Democrats took Congress. 2010 is much more of a Republican year. So this may or may not indicate an overall drop in support for medical marijuana.
Still, it's a disappointment, as activists hoped that the lessons of four years ago would lead to success this time. But don't think that anyone's giving up.
