Breaking News:Dangerous Delays: What Washington State (Re)Teaches Us About Cash and Cannabis Store Robberies [REPORT]

It's Official: South Dakota Medical Marijuana Initiative Makes November Ballot

The South Dakota Secretary of State's office Monday certified an initiative legalizing medical marijuana for the November ballot. The initiative, the South Dakota Safe Access Act, is sponsored by the South Dakota Coalition for Compassion, a statewide group of doctors, patients, law enforcement officials, and concerned citizens. It is being backed by the Marijuana Policy Project. South Dakota has the dubious distinction of being the only state where voters rejected an initiative to allow the use of medical marijuana. Amidst concerted opposition from South Dakota law enforcement and the Bush administration Office of National Drug Control Policy, which sent officials to the state to campaign against the measure, voters defeated a 2006 initiative by a margin of 52% to 48%. This year's initiative would allow qualified patients to possess up to an ounce of usable marijuana and would allow patients or their caregiver to grow up to six plants. Patients would register with the state and obtain a state registry ID card upon getting a physician's approval to use marijuana for conditions including some cancers, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and seizures, as well as specific disabilities, including wasting syndrome, chronic pain, severe nausea, and seizures. "The coalition could not be more proud of this truly grassroots accomplishment," said Emmit Reistroffer, coalition communications director, in a statement. The group collected 32,000 signatures, nearly double the number of valid signatures needed. "Our members are united behind protecting the sick and the dying, and we now aim to educate the public about the various medical applications for cannabis before the election this November." “We are excited that South Dakota voters will have another opportunity to make the medical use of marijuana legal for patients in the state,” said Steve Fox, director of state campaigns for the Marijuana Policy Project. “Given the increasing level of support for medical marijuana across the country over the past few years, we are fully confident that a solid majority of voters in the state will support patients’ rights this November.”

Looking for the easiest way to join the anti-drug war movement? You've found it!

You have handed the DEA a

You have handed the DEA a Eradicate-The-Weed Free card. Every man, woman, and child had the power in seeds to win the war against the war on pot.You failed to resist the stereotypical lack of motivation and debth of thought. A few thousand smokers with a few million seeds had the chance to spread the weed wildly around our planet and Free the Weed! You had the opportunity to show responsible medical use in Colorado and other states but failed to fight the urge to rob and fuck eachother over for pot! So many have abused the right to get it medically and lost the 1 chance to get it legalized for LEGITIMATE medical users. The president Obama told the DEA to back off and you fell for it! People still being raided and killed by the DEA's soldiers? Now that you're off guard they have continued their efforts to hunt users down. Don't you think the over usage of pot AND the medical user and provider registries have put more names and addresses on their list to investigate? What makes you think your information is any more protected and private than an Arab American's (otherwise known as an Automatically-Suspected-Terrorist American)? Now you are going to sit and watch while the Feds to gather you all into a small room to shoot you in the back. You handed control to Uncle Sam and Big Brother by allowing your plant to become an overrated & unnatural seedless FREAK! What you buy and sell as natural medical marijuana is so far removed from nature you can't even grow it yourselves. They are siezing control like never before over who grows it, sells it, and buys it. You can't seem to get it through your cloudy sculls that your vote doesn't mean SHIT and has been replaced by the preprogramed paperless voting machine. The end of weed as you know it is not to far off. You have bastardized weed until it had retardedly high levels of THC that only keep you buzzed short time. 15 minutes later and your smoking another bowl and a day later your buying another ounce! You have paid out your asses for an overrated, expensive way to burn through cash and time. In case any of you "medical" users have any sense left, think about this: Isn't it's CHEAPER and EASIER to buy it ILLEGALLY and you don't have to give your identification to the MOST corrupt and untrustworthy government to ever dominate the globe?!?!? You should've spread the seed while there were still some left. And to those who seem to think the weed fairy magically makes the plant happen and that the only GOOD weed is seedless, THE ONLY NATURAL WEED COMES FROM SEED (read your fucking bible if you can still remember how to R-E-A-D). ALL NATURAL PLANTS PRODUCE SEED. EVEN CLONED PLANTS GOT THEIR START FROM A SEED EVEN IF IT WAS GENERATIONS AGO. The stigma against seeds in your weed is unnecessary. Mark my word, if you insist on losing the seed, UncleSam WILL eradicate the weed and BigBrother can't wait to beat, taze, and shoot the message into your thick heads and lazy asses! Free weed is just a seed's throw away but you potheads live with your heads in the clouds and asses on the couch. It's aparent by your comments that its easier to toke and complain than to take any REAL action. Bootleggers freed alcohol from UncleSams locked liquor cabinet. Time for tokers to take even the crappiest of seeds from even the shittiest of weed and spread them to every inch of exposed earth! Birds have evolved into little seed carriers so, if your too chicken shit to toss them in your local rivers and lakes, feed them to the birds in your own back yard. Weed is natures gift to humankind but you fuckheads take it for granted. IT SHOULD grow wild and be allowed to produce seed. Take a good look at what genetic engineering has done to virus control and vaccination: limited genetic variation and the absence of natural evolution processes have produced some fucked up results like drug resistant strains of viruses and bacteria and such wonderful NEW diseases like bird, swine, and west nile flue, and AIDS. Do you REALLY believe the U.S.A. didn't have anything to do with the creation and spread of such beautiful solutions to population control? The vaccinations for these can be just as harmful because of their contents such as lead and mercury. Your immune system can't even handle taking care of your own bodies and now you rely on weed to heal your minds?.. and you want to allow the FEDs to regulate and control every aspect of marijuana growth and use?!?!?! Your smoke is TOO potent. You need to clear your fucking brain and think seriously NOW! America is forcing global control of marijuana right under your smoking nose.

You are insane.

You have spent -way- too much time pondering over too little and/or incorrect information.

I'll tear your argument(rant) apart with just a few statements:

Cannabis left to grow in the wild will quickly revert back to a plant only useful for fiber production, not containing enough THC to have any medicinal value.

Remains of Cannabis plant material found dating back about 2,000 years was found to have relatively high levels of THC, equivalent to that of modern medicinal Cannabis -- Come on dude, people have been cultivating this stuff for thousands of years. It has been with us longer than the Bible. We haven't created some kind of super weed in the past 50 years, that's completely ridiculous.

Seeds are indeed undesirable in Cannabis (for smoking) for good reasons -- Seedless buds are both more potent and contain more usable product by weight. Cannabis breeders and growers (hell, even the average smoker) know enough about plant biology to realize that seeds are an important part of plant reproduction.

Cannabis does NOT cause brain damage.

There, you see? All that anger you were expressing is only there because you are completely f*ing ignorant!

jaymz119 post

Don't get too upset at jaymz119 for his novel long post. He probably just got his "legal and safe" prescriptions mixed up that morning and must have been a little loopy. Maybe he'd be a good test patient to see the effects on marijuana, because obviously he's more messed up than any pot smoker that you or I know of... Guarantee if he takes one puff of some weed his mind will work much better than it was during his post, I mean it couldn't be any worse with his made up "facts". Nice try jaymz119, and good luck next post...
Go Green!

Far out man!

Far out man!

Medical Marijuana

You are totally right whoever commented two messages ago. Dude you most definantly have a point. this shits organic, not bad for you at all, and why shouldnt it be available for the people who need it? i sorry but your totally wrong. weed does not give you brain damage, it simply coats your brain receptors, but it does not damage them. so get your shit straight.

I've been smoking growing and selling pot for over 15 years and pot is always better when it has no seeds one or two is a good thing for the simple fact of growing more I say bring on the genetic munipulation of marijuana make the thc more potent give me ways to make it all better I say its the peoples choice besides everyone is complaining about the economy being bad if we had medical marijuana leagal that would open more jobs for people you need growers you need sellers marijuana could be our way out of this economical demise leagalize marijuana not just for the fact of medical use but for the fact that the economy sucks it will create a lot more jobs for the production and growing and selling procces bring us out of depression while helping people live a normal life again I'm robert and I have glaucoma
