Joe Biden's Daughter Allegedly Caught on Video Snorting Cocaine

Posted in:
The New York Post dropped a bombshell over the weekend:

A "friend" of Vice President Joseph Biden's daughter, Ashley, is attempting to hawk a videotape that he claims shows her snorting cocaine at a house party this month in Delaware.

The video, which the shooter initially hoped to sell for $2 million before scaling back his price to $400,000, shows a 20-something woman with light skin and long brown hair taking a red straw from her mouth, bending over a desk, inserting the straw into her nostril and snorting lines of white powder.

Thus far, no media outlet has purchased the video, and Huffington Post is reporting that it was filmed without consent. As to whether the tape is authentic, we'll have to wait and see, but my gut tells me the Biden family would be making noise right now if this were all a big hoax. They haven’t said anything.

Despite the greed and nastiness that brought this matter to our attention, we're now confronted with yet another major celebrity drug use scandal that is far from typical. If, in fact, Joe Biden's daughter is a cocaine user, there will be a very public conversation in which the vice president's history of aggressive drug war posturing will be juxtaposed against the drug use taking place in his own family. As the administration pushes a hardline response to the drug war violence in Mexico, Ashley Biden could easily become symbolic of the American drug user whose disposable income subsidizes the cartels and renders our enforcement efforts impotent.

Like the Michael Phelps saga, it's a story that tells itself and requires little to no narration from advocates for drug policy reform. Ashley will rightly be perceived as the victim of an unscrupulous associate who violated her privacy for personal gain. Her alleged drug use shouldn't (and hopefully won't) ruin her career. Who knows, maybe she could become president some day. So long as the vast and infinitely clumsy arm of the law doesn’t get involved here, no one's life needs to be ruined. Stay tuned.

Traffic-the movie

This sounds like a replay of the movie Traffic where Michael Douglass played the character of the Drug Czar and his daughter was using drugs. The Movie is almost 10 years old and the situation has not improved in America. Perhaps some day soon we will begin to see some progress on drug policy reform issues.

The Carter Administration

I think I'm getting this from the anti-prohibition documentary that Woody Harrelson narrated, but I'd love someone to provide me with some factual reference/fill in.

What I recall from the documentary was Carter taking a strongly anti-prohibition stance, but someone in his administration, or the child of someone in his adminstration, getting busted trying to smuggle cocaine into the country. Apparently, this predicated Carter taking a more tough-on-drugs approach than it had previously.

Does anyone remember more, or have some decent references? My big dread is a drug scandal in the white house, as this would certainly give the drug warriors ammunition.

There is opportunity in this event for reformers. Tony Newman of the Drug Policy Alliance wrote an excellent column on this issue at Alternet. Kids Do the Darndest Things: Joe Biden's Cocaine Dilemma.

This morning I FAXED the Vice president a copy of Tony Newman's column expressing my empathy for his dilemma. I encourage others to write a cover letter for the column and FAX it to the Vice president's office today.
RE: Allegation of Ashley Biden cocaine use

Dear Vice President Biden And Dr. Jill Biden:

You have my empathy for the problem that you now face with allegations that your daughter Ashley was videographed using a controlled substance at a party recently. Being in the public eye and having the high profile of Vice President in chage of drug control policy gives you complications in this type of event that go well beyond the normal angst that a parent suffers when confronted with the drug use of a child.

There are many things that I would like to say about how much I disagree with both the Vice President’s attitudes about nation drug control policy and President Obama’s ill-conceived support for the counter-productive drug war. I will not digress into these issues at this time. Instead I simply want to share with the family of the Vice President a column by Drug Policy Alliance media director Tony Newman on the issue of Ms. Biden’s alleged publicly captured use that articulates some of the issues that you are facing today. I whole-heartedly agree with Ms. Newman’s perspective and hope that it can inform you and lead you, as Vice president, to a saner policy for drug use and abuse in America.

Ashley Biden's Cocaine Use

Well, 2010 will not come soon enough for me. And speaking of Ashley Biden the cokehead, I have seen this pattern of a media blackout before.......John Edwards anyone?

White House has NOT Repudiated the Tape

And the media has not asked the White House about the tape.

This story has been out there since Saturday.

True or not the media should be asking the White Hose for comment.

True or not the White House should be unilaterally repudiating the tape and trying to defuse the story.

If the White House does not repudiate a story it is usually because the story is true and the White House can't repudiate it.

Those bitches

If I choose to smoke something that comes from the earth I do 10 to 15. They get get caught with lab based powder up there noses and all they getis a slap on the wrist? Screw the government and everything they stand for.

Drug use & abuse

Cocaine is a Hell of a drug to quote Rick "Superfreak" James. The War on Drugs is working. Cartels are more powerful and the violence is at a spillover point where it has already been affecting the U.S. for decades now. Prohibition works right? We are safer from drugs today than 38 years ago right? The media tells us the headlines in Mexico indicate the Cartels are desperate because their backs are against the wall. The record seizures of drugs equals less drug roaming our streets right?
That all would be great if it wasn't so painfully untrue. If supply falls then prices go up! Making drug dealing even more lucrative for those left to engage in it. No matter how many cartel leaders you pay millions to lock up. Some lower ranking member is always willing to step up. Position are quickly fillied from the leadership to the foot warrior. Drug are so readily available that everyone has access. Even kids who have it all with their whole lives ahead of them and no real reason to use drugs other than to "Have some fun!!!" Intelligent well to do children obviously did not buy into the whole "just say no" horse and pony show as the young Biden and millions of others can attest to. Why don't we just set up a federal police force to regulate the consumption of fatty foods to combat our obesity problem. After all if we can use the police machinery to force people into not using our own drugs but only use their's which are alcohol, cancerettes & Prescription meds no matter how lethal they are then we surely can tell folks what to eat. Any while were at it, lets start to arrest responsible drinkers and adults who engage in consentual sex so we can send a strong message to our kids!! That we will treat adults like little children in order to protect our kids. J. Velasco Brownsville Texas

Biden's drug policies caused so much misery for our society.....

....and they couldn't even keep his own daughter off drugs. I wonder if our society would have been much better off if they just kept cocaine in the Coca-Cola for people over 21.

More Signs of Progress

It’s April 6, 2009, and it appears the Ashley Biden cocaine story has dropped off the media radar screen like a small plunging meteor.

That is a vast improvement over the old days.  Imagine drug warrior VP Joe Biden sweating out a media and partisan-hyped drug scandal involving a rebellious family member at this time in his career.  The VP’s current state of relative bliss is directly attributable to a dying drug war.

Welcome to the new anti-prohibition America, Joe.
