DEA Blatantly Blocks Medical Marijuana Research

After stalling for two years, the DEA has conveniently chosen the final days of the Bush Administration to act on the Craker petition:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bush administration struck a parting shot to legitimate science today as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) refused to end the unique government monopoly over the supply of marijuana available for Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved research.  DEA's final ruling rejected the formal recommendation of DEA Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Mary Ellen Bittner, issued nearly two years ago following extensive legal hearings.

"With one foot out the door, the Bush administration has once again found time to undermine scientific freedom," said Allen Hopper, litigation director of the American Civil Liberties Union Drug Law Reform Project. "In stubbornly retaining the unique government monopoly over the supply of research marijuana over the objections of DEA's own administrative law judge, the Bush administration has effectively blocked the proper regulatory channels that would allow the drug to become a wholly legitimate prescription medication."

The DEA ruling constitutes a formal rejection of University of Massachusetts at Amherst Professor Lyle Craker's petition, filed initially June 24, 2001, to cultivate research-grade marijuana for use by scientists in FDA-approved studies aimed at developing the drug as a legal, prescription medication. [ACLU]

Marijuana, unlike LSD, MDMA, heroin and cocaine, is almost impossible to obtain for research purposes and the DEA will do everything in its virtually infinite unchecked power to keep it that way. We all know why: they’re afraid of what the research will show.

The really disgusting part of all this is that the drug warriors actually go around claiming that we need more research before we can allow patients to use medical marijuana, all the while doing everything in their power right before our eyes to prevent that research from happening. There’s nothing secret about any of this. You can just watch them do it.

And the best part of all is that the DEA actually managed to churn out a 118-page monstrosity explaining their position, which can be summed up as follows:

Marijuana is bad and we are powerful, so f**k you. Furthermore…f**k you. And in conclusion, based on the aforementioned facts…f**k you.

I don’t know why it took them over a hundred pages to flesh it out. I guess they just love killing trees.

The President and U.S. Congress is hiding behind the DEA

The President and U.S. Congress is hiding behind the DEA. They abdicated from their responsibility to control cannabis via a regulated market in 1937. They've been hiding every since. They demonized cannabis then prohibited it's control. How can they back down now? I'm going to push everyone I meet to contact their elected officials and demand the Govt re-legalize cannabis. There are millions of seriously ill patients who could greatly benefit from medical marijuana. Recreational users deserve to be free to use their drug of choice, too. This issue is only going to snowball until it reaches critical mass. Strict prohibition is going to backfire on the DEA. Americans don't like being shoved around by a bunch of bullies. The DEA won't have nearly as many job openings when cannabis is legalized. It's coming sooner than they think. Message to Congress: Legalize cannabis, now.

The drug war

This is a very big reason that my generation and younger (45 and younger) are so disillusioned with this government of ours. Why the hell would we trust our government if they lie to us?!?! They tell us what’s right and what’s wrong and then turn around and pull shit like this?!?! What gives them the right to TAKE OUR RIGHTS? I know WHO did but it wasn’t us. Its absolutely ridiculous that professors cant do their research and the people in government that have been blocking this (most of them) need to be brought up on charges for crimes against the world (and yes I’m serious). Fu&^ the liars, put THEM in jail.

No research competition for NIDA's Center on Cannabis Addiction

Clearly a pathetic attempt by the DEA to keep the government the supreme purveyor of the "truth" by roadblocking other researchers from competing with NIDA's recent $4 million plans for a "Center on Cannabis Addiction."

Well, they gotta kill

Well, they gotta kill something, and there are only so many puppies in the world.

Welcome to der faderland.

I love the way the "Bushies", see all, know all, and control whatever they can. Its lies, half truths, and ignorance. If "the Zogby Poll" is anywhere near correct, over 60% of the American people believe that we need a new direction. If the Obama administration continues the now failed drug prohibition, I would vote against a second term. I'm 68 yrs old and remember when "Nixon", declared his war on drugs, I have seen peoples lives ruined, not by drugs, but by prohibition. I have watched otherwise, decent people, go to jail for burning a plant, whats up with that? I've seen cops on the take, common folks, who no longer respect the law or the people who enforce those laws, whats up with that? Its past time to control these "jack booted thugs". Its time to have an adult debate, with both sides respecting other views. Stop supporting an ongoing criminal enterprise, stop Nazi tactics, look at what the people want.

Time to shut down the DEA

The DEA continues to be the biggest impediment, when it comes to doing any meaningful research on Pot. Dating back to the greater part of the
last century, the DEA and it's forebears, have been at the center of
popularizing any and all negative views on Marijuana. They are responsible for the warped and misleading myths regarding Marijuana,
and have steadfastly blocked any attemps to present the true facts.
Over the years, The DEA has become entrenched to the extreme, and
will never change. It has controlled public opinion and National Drug
policy, for way too long now. TIME TO SHUT DOWN THE DEA !!

Why do we needmore research?

I thought the research was done during the Nixon era. If they would just go back and take a look at it..... It was ignored then, too. No,t that more research would not be good. Fact is, it has already been done and the"professors" advised something much different than what the Nixon administration carried out!

THE DEA IS SELF-PERPETUATING

The DEA will fight to the death any legislation that decriminalizes/legalizes pot for ANY reason, since then less cops would be "needed" to bust people for MJ "offenses". The DEA perpetuates the myth that they "Destroy 100,000 tons of marijuana a year." However, 90% of that figure is midwestern ditch weed (aka, HEMP) left over from WWII that won't get a fly high, but WILL give you a throbbing headache! The DEA is a joke whose time is up, and the internet is helping facilitate their demise with popular opinion slowly turning against them. It's only a matter of time 'til they are TOAST. Ta ta, DEA.

DEA

CALL YOUR STATE REPS AND DEMAND TO STOP FUNDING DEA AND TO NOT ALLOW THEM TO BE PAID BY BIG DRUG COMPANIES .THE DEA ARE SUCKING AT THE TEATS OF THESE BIG COMPANIES AND MUST BE WEANED OFF THE CITZENS BLOOD

Marijuana, Inc.

"Marijuana, Inc." a one hour documentary will be aired on CNBC this month. It will be January 22nd and 25th, at 9:00 AM and 1:00 AM (EST). Meanwhile, it would be nice for all the marijuana friends getting this to go to the You Tube video and leave a positive comment on this subject, which you can do by going to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUQOQyNx-rU – that is of course – if you have something positive to say.
Send this to everyone on your email list for them to add their positive comments on this subject also.

The DEA was wrong to deny

The DEA was wrong to deny UMASS a license to grow its own cannabis for research. Cannabis has huge therapeutic potential and our government should not hinder independent research. We should be learning all that we can about this plant, its dangers and benefits.

The DEA is the wrong agency to handle cannabis. It should be passed to the ATF and regulated like alcohol and tobacco. These are dire economic times. Instead of pumping $15 billion annually into law enforcement and prohibition, we could open up entire new industries with industrial hemp (farming, textiles, petroleum alternative, etc.), medical marijuana production and distribution, to bring relief to seriously sick and dying people, and even a recreational cannabis industry like alcohol and tobacco. Imagine the jobs created and tax revenue generated from these industries. Let’s create jobs and revenue.

Regulating and taxing cannabis would eliminate the “gang” element associated with cannabis grown on our public lands where they use dangerous pesticides and fertilizers and divert streams, and are often armed and dangerous and a threat to hikers and hunters. Let’s eliminate the Al Capone’s of cannabis. Legalize.

In reply to 'Pot Smoking Faggots'

You sir are an asshole, a complete and fucking retarded asshole. How dare you bring religion into this, and your fucking Republican views. It has nothing to do with that at all! Besides if you critically look at the bible it reveals use of marijuana spanning millenia.

Now about your alleged paedophilia charges aganst us 'potsmokers'. I'm afraid you are entirely wrong there as well. I must say I have never fancied a child and never want too. I am an honest student at university who smokes pot and let me tell you children are the last thing on my mind! Oh and yeah, me along with my friends who smoke what some might call copious amounts of ganja are I'm afraid to tell you, on the way to getting University Degrees which makes us future leaders of this world.

So in closing, go fuck yourself you narrow minded cunt.
Oh and I forgot, I am not American but I have American family in Oregon (Prime Medical Marijuana Territory), and to tell you the truth I never want to be American with your stupid drug laws, completely biased and unfair health care and fucked up Constitution. That's right I called the Constitution fucked up!

Now, let me roll up a spliff, sit bak and relax, knowing that in England we aren't treated like hard line scum.
p.s Sorry if I offended any honest living Americans who want change, I only speak out in anger against dicks like the Republican above. But if you honest Americans love your Constitution defend it, and get it back to its original state, none of this bullshit impeaching on your HUMAN RIGHT to INHALE a FUCKING PLANT!!!

peace and love
