Vandu celebrates it's 10th

Submitted by David Borden on
The Vancouver area network of drug users celebrated it's 10th anniversary on Saturday,July 19,'08.The week started out with co founder and media spokesperson Ann Livingston having to deal with another Liberal member(hopeful)Stephen Chong stating that all drug addicts should be sent to an island somewhere and left there until they either quit or expire. He didn't say which choice he'd prefer, which is strange considering the attitude.Chong was asked to withdraw the comment but declined.Chong's message was said to; "not resonate well with the voters".One can only hope.In an article featuring on line posts following the assassinations of two UN gang members such comments as:"good riddance","1 down 1000 to go","couldn't happen to a more deserving person".I think you get the gist.I'm sure no one likes the fact that there are bloodthirsty gangsters living amongst us but these guys have families and people should keep their bile to themselves.Of course I posted a letter to the editor pointing out that prohibition is the real enemy but it never found it's way into the paper.I even sent the local media the statement from Vienna 2008 and not one single rag printed even a line. The Georgia Straight was the only paper that printed Ann's answer to Chong. It is the one media voice in B.C. that doesn't take editorial orders from Toronto.Premier Gordon Campbell was shown with his arm around Chong in the Straight article.
