Drug-free smokers wanted

I was walking through the halls of my school today and saw an flier seeking participants in a survey. It reads "Smokers Wanted. Quiting not neccesary." Upon closer inspection I saw a small line that read "Participants must be drug-free." Typically this type of twisted misunderstanding of drugs is something I chuckle about and comment on to my friends, then go about my day. However, this is a study being done by researchers at Duke University. These are the people that are generating the data on drug use in our country and they seem to have a problem recognizing that nicotine is a drug, I'm willing to be because it is legal. I'm thinking about calling the researchers and asking if they would accept me even though I love a good scotch here and there. I'll be sure to post my findings.

drug-free smokers

Years ago, I stopped hanging around with one of my best friends because she married a man who would stand with a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other and tell ME that I shouldn't use drugs. Last month, I lost my job because of prior drug felonies (I passed the background check when I was hired) because the new director of the facility doesn't want "drug addicts" working for her. This woman is about 5'6" and weighs at least 425. Meanwhile, in state-mandated "substance abuse treatment," we spend 2 hours listening to horror stories about the evils of addiction; then everybody goes outside for a cigarette.
I'd rather be drug addict than a self-righteous hypocrite.
