Recent studies have trumpeted the health benefits of moderate drinking.In a report by Dr.Tim Stockwell,director of the centre for addictions research of B.C. reported:A few drinks and ordinary Canadians are willing to give electric shocks to strangers who annoy them.As the consumption of alcohol increases,so to do suicide and homicide rates.Booze is implicated in half of fatal car crashes.It can leave people disfigured from lip and mouth cancer and it increases the possibility of hemorrhagic stroke and can cause disease or injury from 49 other causes.The report was in response to a study that showed posisible benefits to the heart from moderate drinking.The United Nations National Agency for Research on Cancer has also implicated alcohol to cancers of the larynx,pharynx,esophagus,liver,colon and rectum.Long term use can result in permanent brain damage.Women have a perpensity to succum to ruptured bladders.(in binge drinkers)There are 50 ways alcohol kills,injures or sickens people and each of them is going up,says Stockwell.It's our favorite drug and we all love it,adds Stockwell.I beg to differ and fail to see why,if all of this is true,I can't enjoy my drug of choice.Mr.Stockwell didn't leave an address for a comment.The article appeared in The Vancouver Sun newspaper,Fri.Dec.21,2007.
