Bipartisan Federal Bill Would Open Banks to Marijuana Businesses. Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Cory Gardner (R-CO), along with 18 other cosponsors, filed legislation Thursday that would shield banks that maintain accounts for marijuana businesses from being punished by federal regulators. The Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Act would stop federal agencies from being able to "prohibit, penalize, or otherwise discourage a depository institution from providing financial services to a cannabis-related legitimate business or service provider or to a State, political subdivision of a State, or Indian Tribe that exercises jurisdiction over cannabis-related legitimate businesses." Companion legislation in the House has already passed out of committee and awaits a House floor vote.

Medical Marijuana

Texas Medical Marijuana Bills Get Hearing. The House Public Health Committee held a hearing on a trio of medical bills Thursday. Testimony was sometimes highly emotional, and no one spoke up against medical marijuana. HB 122 would create a legal defense for patients possessing medical marijuana and doctors who recommend it; HB 1405 would allow hospital patients to use CBD cannabis oil; and HB 3703 would expand current use of CBD cannabis oil to all epilepsy patients, not just those with intractable epilepsy. No votes were taken.

Drug Treatment

Maine Jail Appeals Federal Court Ruling It Must Provide Drug Used in Opioid Treatment. The Aroostook County Jail is appealing a federal judge's ruling that it must provide an opioid addiction medication it says it is necessary to keep addiction in remission. A federal judge granted a preliminary injunction on March 27 that required the jail to provide buprenorphine (Suboxone) to the prisoner. The jail argues that the judge didn't defer enough to jail administrators for policymaking decisions.

"Banking?"  Whatever happened to stopping the arrests?  Whatever happened to protecting the patients?

Are you for the marijuana consumer?  Or, are you for the marijuana business?

These two things are divergent interests, and ultimately, they are opposing causes; it is important to understand which cause you support, and to know which politicians are, or are not, working on your behalf.

Let's be clear: Cory Gardner (R-CO) is an enemy to marijuana legalization.  He openly opposes marijuana legalization, as does the GOP at large, while attempting to bait-and-switch "states rights" for patients' rights.  Moreover, in lockstep with the rest of the Trumpanzees, Cory Gardner tried THREE TIMES to take away his own constituents' Healthcare in Colorado -- proof positive he doesn't care a whit about the health of medical marijuana patients in particular.  His agenda is not People -- it is Profit.

Who do you fight for?  The black marijuana consumer in Mississippi doing time for a joint?  Or the white dispensary owner in Colorado whose biggest problem is too much cash?  These are not the same cause.  One is People; the other is Profit.

Here we currently live in a fractured America, wherein pot is legal in some states, but not in others.  It seems the so-called "tipping point" that marijuana legalization activists have anticipated for so long became, instead, a fracture point.

But a true marijuana legalizer supports legalization in all fifty states -- indeed, across the entire globe, wherever drug prohibition is oppressing humanity.  Marijuana legalization is about human rights, not corporate profits.

If you believe that consumers are there to serve the business community, you just might be a Republican; that would make you an enemy to marijuana legalization.  Republicans are prohibitionists and drug warriors.  Republicans are extortionist parasites; they are fundamentally incapable and disinterested in building a better society or serving a common good.  They exist solely to extort and exploit.

On the other hand, if you believe that a legitimate business exists to serve society first, that is, The People, then you are probably not a true Republican, because you serve a different master.

You can take pride in that.

If you want to help the cause, vote Democratic in 2020!

Realize the left wing and the right wing are both attached to the same bird and neither cares if people suffer and die. Instead of thinking that party will fix this know that the only thing that will fix this is if people stand up and demand change period. If you think that one party over the other is the cause or the fix you are wrong. They are ALL guilty as sin
