Recovery Ambassador Workshop

Submitted by dguard on
The Drug Policy Alliance is proud to sponsor this Recovery Ambassador Workshop. The event, organized by the Johnson Institute and local re-entry program Second Chance, is designed for people in recovery—but the training is valuable for all people who believe that substance dependence is a matter of individual and public health and that people struggling with current or past drug use should not be discriminated against. The one-day training that will cover the following strategies: * Finding Activists, Learn to "be a detective" and find people like you. * Building a Message, Learn how your positive message can benefit the entire community. * Organize Volunteers, Learn how to assess your core organizers into becoming your group's "central nervous system." * Talk to Policy Makers, Learn why people in recovery can use their special influence to make a positive difference with others. How to prepare for media interviews and how to take advantage of the media's special influence. * How to Raise Money, Take the fear out of fundraising. Find people with money. Find out what they want to hear. Tell them what they want to hear. Ask for their money. * Team Renewal, Learn how to fight complacency NOW! Learn how successful groups constantly recruit, train, grow and change with the times. The cost of registration is $45, but the Drug Policy Alliance is offering a limited number of scholarships for this event. They see discrimination against people with addiction disease as a civil rights issue and are committed to advocating for fair treatment. "Recovery Ambassadors is a leadership training program designed to change the way Americans view addiction. More than 3,000 Americans that have recovered from alcoholism and other drug addictions are receiving leadership training in this exciting initiative. Recovery Ambassadors training prepares people in recovery, family members and other supporters to advance public understanding and appropriate responses to chemical dependency."
