Terrorism<war on drugs>

The U.S. Army Manual defines "terrorism" as "The calculated use of violence or threat of violence to attain goals that are political, religious or ideological in nature." By its own definition, therefore, the U.S.

One BIG step back? (www.hortadacouve.com)

The first and only portuguese site about cannabis growing and anti-prohibicionist activism, had to "redraw" from the german server of OVERGROW, folowing a "menace pression" from the german police, whom acted by request of the portuguese "unknown" authorities.

Speaking out does NOT make me a bad parent!

Last spring, my childrens' school hosted a anti-drug conference. This conference turned out to be a doctor who's brother had committed suicide and she blamed crystal meth. I am all for teaching our children about the dangers of drugs but I believe that our children should be told the TRUTH about the physiological effects certain drugs can and cannot have. This doctor used scare tactics and lies to try convince those school children not to use crystal meth. She then proceeded to tell them (us) that if they were not Christian and they got addicted to meth that their situation was hopeless. Granted, I am situated right here in the heart of the Bible belt, but there were still mixed religions in that crowd.

Babblings of an outsider

This is all so very interesting. I've been subscribing to the DRCnet Chronicle for several years now, and although there seems to be some progress happening, it's painfully slow. Of course, I do not have first hand understanding, of what exactly is happening on that side of the pond, as I'm living in northern Europe in the remotest possible location from anything resembling an open minded way of thinking. Finland, that is.

I Know You Won't Read This......

...line for line and word for word, so why do I bother? Well, here goes anyway, because I have a deep faith in the human psyche with both the conscious and the subconscious absorbing knowledge and rendering the birth of wisdom that this process eventually achieves, even if only by the process of osmosis.

Ending Prohibition AGAIN!

Our grand, and great-grand parents were victims of, and responsible for ending, the First Prohibition - Alcohol Prohibition. Lives were torn apart and children became victims of the same Criminals/Unjust Laws that exist today again, because of Prohibition II. Our ancestors hit the street with signs and protests against the heart of the problem, Prohibition itself. We must honor them by showing that that same sense of right exists in their decendants. We must end Prohibition II. Your suggestions of how to end, or your stories of victimization by this War On Drugs, are welcome here.

ONDCP Ads Condemned by GAO; Souder Responds by Setting World Record for Unintelligent Talking

Our friends at SSDP report that the ONDCP has been slammed by the GAO again.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Government Accountability Office (GAO) ruled on Friday that the White House’s $1.2 billion anti-drug ad campaign is not only ineffective, but encourages some teens to try drugs. The GAO, Congress’s auditing arm, recommended that funding for the ads be cut despite President Bush’s request for another $120 million to produce more ads next year.

ONDCP’s incompetence has become quite a chore for the folks at the GAO who are responsible for ensuring fiscal responsibility in government.

Steve Kubby Running for President

This is a press release from former medical marijuana refugee Steve Kubby, who intends to run in the Libertarian Party presidential primary for 2008. DRCNet for legal reasons does not at this time take positions on candidates. However, we certainly can say that are glad that Steve is in a position to be able to run; that is, alive and not imprisoned.

Ending Terror

Does it really take a genius to figure out the much of the "terror" of the world is funded by the illegal drug trade? Does it take a genius to figure out the much of the reason for the corruption is Mexico, Central, and South America is funded by illegal drug trade because if the market was controlled by legit companies the degree of profit would not be there, money would flow over the table instead of under it, and because companies not guerrillas would manage the industry?

Societal cognitive dissonance

"Preaching to the choir" is a term that I can relate to. I talk about the drug war to a wide variety of people and have found that a wide variety of people agree that the "War on Drugs" is not the right strategy to take. I was talking to some workmates the other day and they were making comments about how conversations change when people find out that the person they are talking to is a police officer. I made the observation that when I learn that someone is in the law enforcement business, I almost immediately begin talking about drug policy.
