ALERT: Save Congressional Medical Marijuana Protections!

Dear reformer:

Since 2014, Congress each year has included language in the annual CJS (Commerce-Justice-Science) appropriations prohibiting the government from using any of the funds to prevent states from establishing and maintaining their own medical marijuana laws. This bipartisan legislation is one of the reasons marijuana policy reform has continued to progress, and without it all of our progress would be placed at risk.

Unfortunately, President Trump's budget, released earlier this month, omits this language. If Congress doesn't act to put it back, the unpredictable president or his anti-marijuana attorney general would have free rein to shut down stores, prosecute their staff and operators, or even in some cases seek the death penalty. Adult use (non-medical) systems would be placed at greater risk too, with medical marijuana no longer being a safe fallback.

Please contract your US Representative and your two US Senators about this, which you can do using our online write-to-Congress form. There you'll find a prewritten short letter, which you are free to modify. When you're done, you can call them too, to make greater impact, through the Congressional Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

There will be more to talk about soon. In the meanwhile, if you support our current mission of furthering compassionate drug policy during this unprecedented time, while doing our part to stop fascism, I ask if you can take a moment to make a donation.

Our donations page at https://stopthedrugwar.org/donate links to forms to make tax-deductible and non-deductible donations by credit card, PayPal or ACH. There is info on other ways to donate as well, at https://stopthedrugwar.org/about/donate.

We are pushing forward and doing our part. And we see reasons for hope – I hope you do too.

Sincerely,

David Borden
