Medical Marijuana: DEA Seizes Medical Marijuana Seized By Seattle Police

Washington state has a medical marijuana law, and the city of Seattle has an ordinance making marijuana offenses the lowest law enforcement priority, but that didn't stop Seattle police from raiding the Lifevine medical marijuana co-op two weeks ago, seizing hundreds of patient files, as well as 12 ounces of dried buds and several pounds of leaf.

In the wake of pointed criticism, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg declined to press charges against co-op operator Martin Martinez and ordered the return of the patient files. But police did not return the co-op's stolen property -- the medical marijuana.

Now, it has become clear the medical marijuana will never be returned. The Seattle Police announced Wednesday that the DEA, acting at the request of US Attorney Jeff Sullivan, took the medicine last Friday.

The DEA tersely confirmed it had seized the medicine. "Accordingly, the DEA has seized and processed the marijuana for destruction; that concludes this matter," agency spokesperson Jodie Underwood said in a statement reported by the Associated Press.

Typical Collusion

This is just another example of local law enforcement ignoring and suborning the very laws they are obligated to enforce.

I'd be willing to bet that someone at the Seattle Police Department made a call to either the DEA or the US Attorney, asking that the cannabis be seized.

The Seattle Police are financially responsible for the stolen property (the 12 ounces) and should be ordered to reimburse Martinez, and the officers who conducted the raid should, at the very least, be required to formally apologize to a Citizen (not civilian) of the State of Washington who's rights they violated.

the law,or lack thereof!

...Spike TV,owned I believe by MTV,has put on a show called DEA ,which of course shows that group in action protecting the populace against drug bandits and joe college kid, causing terror whilst smoking a joint and munching!!..I understand they have another new show that caters to those out there who're upset Bush can't do a 3rd term...It's one of those stations I'll block as being too stupid to watch!!..actually come to think of it almost all the new shows on tv are cop related, and one of the biggest college choices given of late on your online colleges are for criminal law,or anything involving criminal anything....does any of this tell us something???...''POLICE STATE''...love to watch those LAPD beatings on your tv?these are the courses for you, only a 3rd grade education is really all you need....and driving really fast!.....my name is donl on alternet and NORMLNJ and other places, you can tell my comments by the similar way I write them,or of course subject matter!!.......donl

Strange considering the gov't holds the Patent on Cannabinoids!

Most folks are aware that the U.S. Government continues to maintain the old drug war refrain that marijuana has no accepted medical value... yet the same U.S. Governmet holds the patent for... are you ready for this... "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants".

That's right kiddies, your government currently holds U.S. Patent # 6,630,507 claiming: "Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties... cannabinoids are found to have particular applications as neuroprotectants... limiting neurological damage following... stroke and trauma... or in treatment of neurodegenerative diseases... such as Alzheimer's... Parkinson's... and HIV dementia"
.
Please, someone tell me how a gov't that kills or incarcerates those that dare to disagree while claiming one thing while positioning itself to profit from the exact opposite can be legal or moral... even in this scoundrel ridden christian nation.

The government patent should be struck down as an illegally acquired property/intellectual right. The medical efficacy of Cannabis has been known by respected medical professionals for decades... literally centuries. Yet the u.s. government continues to prohibit, under the guise of regulation, the scientific study of the cannabis plant while obtaining the patent for cannabinoids.

It's not the THC that scares the crap out of uncle scam... it's the BSBs... the 'Bullshit Blockers'!

DEA

I put no stock in DEA; under the word of Marijuana I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every agency calling it the devil's weed. I’ve seen too much hate and very little tolerance in the eyes of too many madmen. Holiness, is in right action and courage on the behalf of those that can not defend themselves, and Godliness…I believe what God desires is here (The Mind) and here,(The Heart) and what actions you decide to do every day…do this and you will be a good man/woman

strongest weapon to defeat the war on marijuana

The strongest weapon we have against the Fed's to end their attacks on our medical programs is non-cooperation.

If the DEA fails to except state law then we will NOT prosecute other drug crimes for them.

In other words if they kick down doors of dispenaries then local police will stop prosecuting hard drug crimes.

Watch how quick they stop the war on marijuana.

California had filed legislation seeking non-cooperation with the Fed's but it did not pass yet.

But let's do ballot initiatives that say states will not prosecute ANY drug crimes; if the Fed's violate state drug laws on marijuana.

Jurisdiction Anyone?

I have to wonder how the Feds from any agency are allowed to enforce Federal-area law within a sovereign state unless a "cooperative" agency asks for assistance.

As we all know from the Katrina disaster that FEMA cannot enter state jurisdiction without an invitation - there is no difference between FEMA or any other federal agency.. It's time to demand that state sovereignty be recognized and enforced!

Contact your local DEA

Contact them and let them know what scum bags they are. I have. It feels good to get things off your chest.. lol.

DEA---Duplicitous Ego-maniacal Assholes

The DEA are just a bunch of neanderthal thugs who took their job because they wanted the power of the badge and the gun and of the U.S. government behind them to protect them from their excesses. The DEA could also mean Dickhead Enforcement Assassins. They have spawned about 40,000 look-alike SWAT teams that have little training, especially in how to treat people as human beings instead of dogs like themselves.
