The Cato Institute will host
a one-day conference, "Beyond Prohibition: An Adult Approach to Drug Policies
in the 21st Century," October 5 in Washington, DC. "Beyond Prohibition"
will feature New Mexico governor Gary Johnson, who has recently begun a
discussion of decriminalization and legalization, as well as Ethan Nadelmann
of the Lindesmith Center, Joseph McNamara, former police chief of San Jose
and fellow at the Hoover Institution, professor Steven Duke of Yale Law
School, a debate between former California attorney general Daniel Lungren
and George Mason University law professor Daniel Polsby, former DEA agent
