The November Coalition, an organization made up of friends, family members
and supporters of people imprisoned for non- violent drug offenses, is
spearheading a project in this holiday season in hopes of raising awareness
on the issue. The project is called "A Light In the Window" and
they have asked us to spread the word.
Supporters are asked to place a light (preferably an electric candle)
in a front window as a symbol of support for the hundreds of thousands
of mostly young, mostly poor non-violent prisoners of the War on Drugs,
many of whom are serving decades-long sentences while violent prisoners,
not subject to harsh, mandatory minimums, are sent home. The lights will
be kept burning until substantial changes are made in American drug policy.
