some organizations DRCNet played a role in starting:

Vancouver Province newspaper posts editorial asking for ;"locking up chronic drug offenders and forcing them into treatment or indefinite jail time.

An editorial writer in Vancouvers second most read newspaper wrote suggesting that chronic drug offenders steal something like,750,000 dollars daily. They must have big shopping carts. The writer goes on to suggest that the Harper ,"drug plan?",is compassionate because it puts millions into treatment. What it fails,as all these right wing agendists do, is that the overwhelming share of the overall crime budget is for enforcement and that the "millions",are a drop in the bucket in the big picture.Mr.Harper must read.He has to know the monumental failure such plans have had in the states. His only motive, therefor,is to pander to his religious right, neo conservative base.Putting us into Afghanistan was proof to me that Harper failed history in school.

Marijuana on BC ferries

David Hahn,in another attempt to divert people from his own incompetence in the Queen of the North, sinking, announced that the transportation saftey board alludes to the smoking of marijuana between shifts,on board the vessel.Mr. Hahn doesn't mention these people are liveaboard crew and have no where to go between shifts. As a shift is 6-8 hours, with breaks of at least that length,I'm sure that if they bid smoke it would be before bed and if they were still impaired when it was again time to work, get me some of that pot.Mr.Hahn's immediate reaction was to throw out the charter and supreme court descisions on the subject and introduce mandatory drug testing. As I don't have to point out,pot shows possitive for a month so testing would prove nothing other than someone was downwind of a reefer in the last 30 days. This is Amstercouver, good luck.

Vancouver police COP unit

Sgt. rennie,of Vancouver's new "chronic offenders untit",wants to force addicts into treatment and if they don't show progress,or have no interrest in taking the same old treatment programmes again,he wants to lock them up indefinatley. I guess sgt.Rennie must be new or just tired but he has to know such programmes as the "new",drug court and mandatory minimus have been done to death in the US and other countries as well.If there's anyone out there that can enlighten me on what was done in New York that cleaned up the streets there,we could sure use the info to try to argue with some degree of knowledge, what it was that happened there.I'm convinced, after 40 years of dealings with this kind of tactics that there was som bad shit went down. You can post comments or mail me at@ sicntired@mac.com
