The Canadian border services agency and the RCMP are crowing about their latest seizure: 61.5 kilos of cocaine were seized around the 23 of Dec. 2007. There's the usual back slapping and congratulatory praises from agency to agency. No arrests have been made but that didn't stop the cops from putting the Hells Angels dead centre in the blame game. "seizing a shipment of contraband is great because it takes it off the streets, but also we work with agencies around the world to try and find the individuals responsible for bringing contraband into Canada." Says Paula Shore of the Canadian border services agency. Too bad they missed all those $1000 bills former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney brought back with him from Germany. A 2003 report identified Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal airports as being so infiltrated by organized crime that they were major gateways for smuggling drugs into Canada. At least they won't let any terrorists into the country; bad for business.Trafficking through the airports was so problematic it was said to have accounted for: 92%of the heroin, 90%of the ecstasy, 40% of the cocaine and 40% of the liquid hashish seized in Canada. Border agents at YVR (Vancouver International Airport) seized 54 kilos of cocaine on a flight from Mexico in September. The drugs were packed in four suitcases. Another 50k was found on a Mexican flight, in suitcases, in 2006. There was also a 2 kilo heroin shipment in 2006 and a man was arrested with 20 k of pot in 2004. There were also 65000 pills of ecstasy brought into Canada from Europe in 2003.There were also: 19k opium '03,706g cocaine and 369g of hash in '04. $1M ecstasy in "99and 8M cocaine in Toronto in 2000. There was also some fake Viagra. There is no mention in the article about the fact that seizures represent only 10% of drug shipments.
