Hinchey Medical Marijuana Amendment Does Not Pass -- No Vote Count Yet
I just saw the following on the House Clerk's web site, posted at 8:31pm:
POSTPONED PROCEEDINGS - At the conclusion of debate on the Hinchey amendment, the Chair put the question on adoption of the amendment and by voice vote, announced that the noes had prevailed. Mr. Hinchey demanded a recorded vote and the Chair postponed further proceedings on the question of adoption of the amendment until later in the legislative day.
In plain English, this means that the amendment did not pass this time around. The question now is how many members of Congress voted for it and how many voted against, and which ones. Hopefully we will see an improvement over last year's totals. However, it is going to have to wait until later tonight, as they are continuing with to debate other amendments, before taking the time to record individual Representatives' votes on all of the amendments later. We are also awaiting reports on which members of Congress took part in the debate and what they said.
Read the blog post I made just a few minutes ago for one good reason Congress really should have passed this amendment.

There's 4 more 2 minute votes left in front of it.

At 10:51 p.m. according to the website http://clerkhouse.gov/floorsummary/floor.html the Hinchey Amendment FAILED by recorded vote (Roll No. 733.) Don't stop keep up the fight for medical and personal use of Cannabis. More deaths and lives have been ruined by alcohol & nicotine than marijuana in the history of time. Do not let the lieing government of the country I love US of A tell you that cannabis is hazardous to your health, you know that little warning on every pack of cigarettes yet the government say's it is ok to smoke tobacco with all it's proven health hazards, they say it is OK because they legalized it and tax the hell out of it. I have been addicted to heroin in my life and was able to kick it BUT I can't kick nicotine in the form of a cigarette, what does that tell you about why our government will allow it's citizens to drink alcohol and smoke tobacco. IT IS THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. How much do you want to bet that the senators that voted "NO" on the Hinchey are classic alcoholics. You know where they have built up such a resistance you can't tell if they have been drinking unless you smell it on them or test them by UA or blood.

Comment posted by Anonymous on Wed, 07/25/2007 - 9:50pmThere were likely far less members in the House chamber at the time of the voice vote than comprise the entire House (i.e. those that will be participating in a roll call vote later this evening).
Therefore, although the voice vote failed, we still have no idea what will happen with the roll call vote. It could very well pass.
The debate was impassioned, with freshman Rep. Stephen Cohen (D-TN) discussing a former Navy Seal vet friend of his who died from cancer.
