Lock-Step

Once again the local media(all owned by Izzy Asper and Family)have climbed right on board in support of the federal government and the absolute prohibition of drugs and the abhorrence of all things harm reduction.Cheering health minister Tony Clement's demand for an appeal of the recent court decision involving InSite and the demand that drug addicts be treated like human beings. How anyone can oppose an effort that is effective in saving the lives of anyone is beyond me.That it prevents the spread of AIDS and Hep C is beyond question.Mr Clement has now admitted that his government was not going to renew insite's exemption to federal drug laws.He says the evidence is not the evidence and if it was he wouldn't believe it anyway. It's now a certainty that the federal government will trump science in every case in which it is in opposition to their dogmatic and moralistic view.To put their own religious dogma at the fore front of government policy is not only illegal. It opposes everything this country is supposed to believe.I can only hope that Canadians will now see that this government has no interest in the opinion of the public or the welfare of it's citisens. In another story a man who was almost killed after being released from custody without the drugs he possessed and without being charged had his sentence doubled today because the court deemed that the sentencing judge took into account the kidnapping to too great a degree as the man did not testify against his kidnappers.I suppose if he'd ratted out his kidnappers he would have been given the 15 months. That his sentence was increased to 44 months may seem light to those south of the border.I just object to the justices reasons.
