Drug user group in chennai changes its name

Submitted by David Borden on
History of IVDU : The Junkies union was founded in Chennai on 2007 May 1st by the drug users as community based drug users group and changed its name to IVDU : INNER VOICE OF DRUG USERS as many members felt that the word junkie would give a bad impression to our members and the group as a whole in the already discriminating & stigmatizing society, so the members sat together , suggested and reviewed many names for months. finally in 2008 it is now called IVDU. How ever the members agreed to retain the mail box as junkies union .It now has a working group consisting of Advocacy panel , advocates and current drug users .Today IVDU is a diverse network of community- based Current Drug user activist group , policy reforming activists challenging the persistent stigma placed : on people who use drugs and advocating for sensible policy reform. IVDU on 2008, Please see the updated sites www.ivdu.4mg.com www.ivdu.blogspot.com
