Law Enforcement: This Week's Corrupt Cops Stories
Pretty quiet on the corrupt cops front this week. There's the daily litany of cops get busted for assaults, sex crimes, drunk driving, and the like, but we could only find one cop in trouble for drug-related corruption. Not to worry -- we're quite sure this is an anomaly. Let's get to it:
In Boston, a retired state trooper was sentenced Tuesday to 25 months in prison and two years supervised release for tipping off dealers to an ongoing investigation and threatening people who owed drug debts. Former Trooper Joseph Catanese earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit extortion and obstruction of justice. He was originally arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute Oxycontin along with another state trooper, Mark Lemieu. Lemieu is already doing a 70-month prison sentence.
