Scared Tolerant
Posted in Reader Blogs by susan28 on Tue, 05/29/2007 - 3:55pmi was reading an article just now about the madness of the drug war: property being seized; whole families being murdered in their homes by crazed SWAT teams who come in shooting, often only on a “tip” from a paid informant; decent, caring palliative physicians sent away for life and losing their livelihoods even if they beat the charges - charges levelled by people who are neither doctors nor patients - the list of atrocities is endless.

Renowned civil rights activist and anti-prohibitionist Steve Kubby has just announced his candidacy for the Presidency in 2008.
He will be running as a Libertarian and promises to return the US to its former status as a Constitutional Republic with sweeping reforms calling for the repeal of all unconstitutional laws and disbanding all government agencies having to do with their enforcement.
Framing the Issue

in the recent article on Ireland the term "re-legalisation" was used, and i thought that was a good term. we could frame it in the context of "restoring constitutional freedoms" or "restoring basic American freedoms to disenfranchised populations", both of which speak subconsciously to conservatives' nostalgic longing for "the good old days" as well as tapping into the Pavlovian response Bush has created to sell his agenda by repeated use of the word "freedom" in conjuction with even the most oppressive activities.
