Simon Hughes MP will kick off Release’s 40th anniversary conference with a consideration of the increasing importance of the voluntary sector to provide a safety net for our most vulnerable citizens.

Helena Kennedy QC will discuss how vulnerable women are failed by the criminal justice system, and Release founder Caroline Coon will talk about why she started the charity in 1967 and how things have changed in 40 years.

Also Simon Jenkins, Guardian and Sunday Times columnist on how we can hold politicians and tabloids to account, Lord David Ramsbotham on the crisis in our prisons and something special from well known US drug policy activist Ethan Nadelmann.
