American Medical Association Ends Opposition to Medical Marijuana
Enemies of medical marijuana have almost completely run out of talking points, and now they just lost one of their favorite remaining arguments:
HOUSTON --- The American Medical Association (AMA) voted today to reverse its long-held position that marijuana be retained as a Schedule I substance with no medical value. The AMA adopted a report drafted by the AMA Council on Science and Public Health (CSAPH) entitled, "Use of Cannabis for Medicinal Purposes," which affirmed the therapeutic benefits of marijuana and called for further research. I wonder how long it will take for the DEA to correct their website.
Just an FYI
Comment posted by Fred Evil on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 7:47pmDr Sanjay Gupta at CNN has asked for folks opinions on this recent change by the AMA. I'd like to encourage as many folks as possible to stop by there, and voice their support for the AMA!

I tried to leave more today (there were 233 at the time)
Comment posted by Moonrider on Thu, 11/12/2009 - 7:33pmBut the moderators chose to not post them, one spoke to the US patent, the phoenixtears movie and the fact the government has known since 1974 that marijuana was medicinal as well as intoxicant. One spoke to the differences between users and abusers and how the two did not equate. And the third was a complaint that they didn't post the other two. Funny thing, now my first post is gone too, even tho it was there when I tried to post those other 3 comments.
I'm pro-choice on EVERYTHING!
Did the AMA Develop a Conscience?
Comment posted by Giordano on Mon, 11/16/2009 - 12:58amMaybe not. But they must know which way the wind blows.
The AMA shift in classification policy means that more domestic pharmaceutical corporations will be able to do R&D on differing cannabinoid analogues.
The contribution to the knowledge database will be appreciated, even if its motive is merely to counter Israeli universities and corporations already hot on the trail of profitable innovations based on cannabinoid biochemistry.
I just think that with all
Comment posted by Anonymous on Mon, 11/16/2009 - 4:45pmI just think that with all the available research on this subject it is becaming too hard to avoid the truth and to do so would seem ignorant and harmful to their credibility.

Comment posted by Anonymous on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 4:50pmIt's about time the AMA stood up for the rights of American citizens to use marijuana for medical purposes. Perhaps now the the medical research can go forward and prove the many uses for it's patients!
