Ryan Frederick Trial

Radley Balko has been covering the trial of Ryan Frederick, the Virginia man who was charged with murder for killing a police officer who he mistook for a burglar during a questionable drug raid.
I’ve been doing my best to report new developments, but it’s an insanely complicated situation and I just don’t have time to cover it adequately. I recommend Radley’s excellent blog The Agitator to those of you who are following the case closely.

here is where Radley summarizes how weird the state's case is
Comment posted by Anonymous on Fri, 01/30/2009 - 1:48amThe state seems to be arguing that Wright [their informant, facing a felony charge] came to the police that night and said something to the effect of, "Okay, I found several marijuana plants in the guy’s garage tonight. I took a few. Don’t ask me how I got them. Also, I don’t have the actual plants anymore. Must have lost them. But I’m sure they were marijuana. Trust me on that. Also, somebody broke into his garage tonight. But it wasn’t me."
On that basis, the clock starting ticking on the officer's life.
Tragic that someone died from such an idiotic project, thank goodness it wasn't an innocent young man.
He's guilty of growing marijuana you say? Sorry, that's a bogus crime. When you're ready to fight real crime with real victims, this country can get back down to business again instead of this (usually) low grade civil war.
