Medical Marijuana: Alabama Bill Wins House Committee Vote, But Unlikely to Pass This Year

I am 100% in agreement with this bill but complaining to a web page doesn't help enough. This is still a democracy, it is a Bill we want passed... So write a congressman.

well i just read every article on this page and not a single one was against legalizing weed so what does that say oh i don't know legalize it so that way when i go to buy weed i can get it from the corner store instead of being out on the streets buying it and have to constantly worry about getting jumped robbed or worse come on now and you wonder why people have illegal guns. 

I live in Alabama and i think it would be ridiculous if they didn't legalize it; Marijuana is by far the safest "So called Drug" in America, there are no long term effects to it, it shouldn't even be a drug, i mean if its a drug then why not make tobacco a drug it grows the same exact way. Maybe if it was legal politicians would actually smoke it and see that marijuana is safe and not harmful like other drugs. I'm just saying if i can go in a bar and drink a beer or even be outside a smoke a cigarette then i should be able to stand outside the courthouse and smoke a joint!

Im 23 years old and live in alabama. I smoke pot every day i have a family history of depression, bipolar, and adhd. I use to get drunk atleast 4 times a week and was always getting into fights it was nothing but drama and made my life even more stressful! Now that i smoke i hate alcohol it does nothing but cause problems for everyone. I smoke and im relaxed i dont want to fight anyone i dont feel depressed and it actually helps me to have a good nights sleep. I agree with every one of these people pot needs to be legalized it would help so many things but the bible belt i have a feeling we will be one of the last ones to legalize it!! I wish the people that make this decision for us in alabama to legalize pot just ask themselves one question.....How many deaths are caused by pot....and how many from alcohol?
They have to wake up and see that if it was legal it would bring back jobs for everyone the economy is already horrible how could making this legal hurt it anymore???? Wake up and see that this could fix our state and if everyone gets involved we could fix our country!

I am an ex coast guard officer and a just retired 30 year merchant marine captain who has smoked since I found it was the only thing that kept me from getting seasick and I went on to a very successful career.  Medical Marijuana needs to be legalized to help so many people and take it away from the back ally drug dealers and a judicial system that uses marijuana prosecutions to pay their bills.

have u ever heard of pot givin someone a tumor or overdose i have watched my mom overdose three time on muscle relaxers and evrything else they give people for pain if they would start givin pot perscriptions maybe people will quit dying and maybe it would help abusers get off substances

I am 42 years old and have suffered from migraines since I was a very small child, my father said I was a sissy and I should buck up or he would give me something to cry about. My mother was very sympathetic because she also would get them on occasion, when I was young the doctors would say there was nothing wrong with me and an asprin  would be all I needed. Many times I would sit and bang my head on the wall until I passed out. Now for all those who doubt the pain, I have taken many spills in my life including a 13 inch 1/2 deep tear in my upper thy from a dirt bike accident, which I scrubbed out and tape shut with out going to the doctor. I have had several 4 wheeler accidents the worst of which I was doing about 60 mph on a gravel road and lost control in a slide and tumbeld breaking three ribs skinning both arms from hand to elbow and a bone bruise that was so bad when I went to the doctor (3 days later) he thought I had detached my thy muscle and almost operated on me. Now my worst accident was when an overheated truck radiator exploded in my face giving me second degree burns over half of my face and chest, you would think this would have been bad enough to go to the hospital.......... nope (really don't  trust them) I went home and stood in the shower for 2 hours. I am sorry for being so long winded but I had to make clear what type of pain I can handle, my worst pain ever has been my migraines. This past year I have missed 3 months of work total, one incident was a solid month during which the pain was so bad I had two suicide attempts after the second I was in the hospital for 3 day while they pumped DHE45 into my system. Up to this point I have been on phentinal oxycodone and several other medi combos. As of know I am coming off of the pain pills because they are no longer effective ( I was at 150 mg) now the only thing I have is DHE45 nasal spray which is not for daily use. And the constant use will eventualy kill my heart, but I have no alternative. In my late teens and early 20s I had very few migraines and did not realize that was when I was a pot head. I know that it will probably still be against federal law until after I am gone but making it legal in Alabama will be a good start. Even though I will not benefit from it since my employer does drug screening. But its perfectly OK for me to be on medicine that will kill me well before my time........... I cannot believe alchohol is legal and weed is not.  Who thinks that if its legalized they will have to be scared to be on the road any more than they are now?  I'd like to know who wouldnt.  Reguardless, I have taken meds for depression for years and have dealt with panic attacks and been in and out of the hospital with various anxiety problems.  ONE hit off of a joint during a panic attack and I am cured.  Please legalize please.  It helps more than just trauma patients.

I live in Phenix City, AL and would benefit from this law passing.  Drinking is legal why not Marijuana ?  If our government would lightly tax Marijuana then maybe some of our teachers and public safety people would not loose their jobs.  The economy is bad and you would think our local government would consider helping some chronic people and the state economy by passing this bill! Contact your local officials and demand this bill be passed or replace them the next election!

I am a lifelong Alabama resident in my forties. About four years ago I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in the lower lumbar region of my back, along with DDD, (degenerative disc disease). I am on 10mg. of Lortab 3X per day. (lLortab is essentially the same exact drug as Vicodin - just a different name brand). I have also suffered from Social Anxiety Disorder for most of my adult life, making it very difficult for me to just call people up and ask them "do you know where.....". You'll have to fill in the blanks there.. lol.

Besides being a dangerous narcotic drug, the Lortab only knocks the 'edge' off of my chronic pain. But, cannabis literally makes me feel ALIVE again. On the rare occasions when I can actually get a small amount of pot for pain-management purposes, (no connections at all)... my life is GREAT. I can almost function at a normal level. My wife also suffers from chronic pain, with three herniated discs and diabetic neuropathy. Cannabis also works wonders for her. In fact she rarely takes her pain meds, because she is terrified of getting addicted - so, the only real relief she ever gets is from cannabis. I purposely "lay off" of the Lortabs for five days per month to make sure I'm staying out of danger. The problem for us, is that we can't afford to pay the prices for the "best quality" medicine.

I've watched a close family member get strung out on Lortabs. He doesn't have a pain problem - just a pill problem. Rehab doesn't help him, jail hasn't helped him, not even a severe head trauma from an accident helped him to realize what they are doing to him. As I watch him get worse and worse from hydrocodone, (Lortab) abuse.... I have no choice but to swallow the damn things three times a day, (and that's just to barely deal with my pain). I'm sure there are many people reading this who can relate perfectly.

Ok here is the thing!! People are goin to abuse Marijuana, just like people abuse cigarettes, its no different!! but the majoirty of people NEED this medicine to help them function and ease an UNFATHOMABLE amount of pain!! If you would just legalize it, tax it, and put an age limit on it (18 or 21)!! I think the hype of abusing this drug might go down just because it isnt illegal anymore!! I mean think about all the people doin it just because it is illegal you know and talk about the economy!! If you made this drug legal we would be outta debt in less than a month!! What do you have to lose!! I see a win/win situation here!! So get out there and do something about it!! Get our voices across to help these people in need!!! 

theres no problem with weed. if there are parents that have problems with their kids smoking weed, then the simple thing is to say no. if they do it ohh well. i think weed should be legalized, over 60% of our population smokes cannabis. I love it. there is no way to become addicted to it. people need to realize this. tell me when was the last time you heard of someone dieing from weed? now think about how many drunk car crashes, and all the lung cancers from ciggerates. NO ONE has ever died from marijuana. they may of triped out, but not died. theres no problem with it at all, the government has spent billions of dollars to try to stop the legalization does anybody realize the debt our country is in? why would the government spend what little money we have left to try and stop something more than half of the nation does. my message is to use statistics in court and show them the facts about the marijuana rate. theni promise you, there will be the legalization.  

its definitly time to legalize marijuana. i am a 33 year old male in the birmingham area. i have been suffering from headaches and light headiness since an car accident that accured when i was 12 years old. i never said anything about it because i thought it was normal....to make a long story short marijuana stops my headaches and light headiness without any side effects(besides a little buzz). i have been arrested for marijuana sevral times but it has never been more than what i needed for personal use but i can walk out of a liquor store with a case of beer,bottle of wine, and a fifth grey goose but nothings wrong with that? something is definitly wrong with that. marijuana is natural...there is nothing added to it;no labortory,no stuff we cant even pernounce,no side effects,no reason it shouldnt be legal. this is not your grandparents alabama anymore it is ours and we are falling behind in every aspect of the word. this is the heart of dixie right? well look into your hearts and think about all of us who are suffering.lets show this country were not as backwards as they think. ITS TIME ALABAMA            

I have had surgery on my neck years ago,work related injurey.This caused me to have a Steele plate with four metal screws in my neck with that surgery.I have permanent nerve damage which in turns causes Muscle spasms,Migraines,nausea,and sleep deprivation/disorder,Back Pain,neck pain,constant crick in my neck.

The plant Helps for all of this to give me a normal life and to be able to work,go to school and learn and to be able to function in normal daily activities with society.

The drugs that are prescribed to me do not work for my conditions.The pills makes me sick,give me headaches,creates an unwanted attitude and makes me sick to my stomach.,inter fears with my diet,sleep,and creates no appetite,inter fears with learning/school and keeps me from working.

The plant does not do any of that,It helps with my condition.This being said im in a situation to where im having to go underground to get the help that I need an Know that works.

I am a God fearing christian and have been raised in the wonderful state of Alabama, I am a 54 year old female that works full time on a very physically demanding job. About two years ago I developed chronic lower back pain, somedays it is so excruciating I can't hardly make it. I am on three 10 mg of loratab, muscle relaxers, nurotin, celebrax, ambien to help me sleep and lexapro to deal with all the anxiety and depression. I am literally burning my liver up with all these chemical drugs, but I can't make it through the day without the control of my pain. I have not used marijuana, but have read wonderful reviews about the relief it will give to you. I agree God put the plant here and it is natural, and if it helps people like me then yes, pass the legalization ASAP. I personally would definitely exchange this drug treatment I am on now for the relief I could possibly receive from marijuana, and not have the side effects that I am enduring now. I have smoked lightly for over ten years now.  No problems.  I would rather a stoner be riding in the car beside me than the ass hole on 6 jack and cokes.  Ten feet tall and bullet proof due to alcohol means DUI and death on the highways.  I wish the legislation can realize....we all have it anyway.  So what s the difference.....they might as well make money on it via tax.  It might save Jefferson County.....and stop the stupidity of the money problems...Where is the sewer money anyway........Now that is an Oceans 11.....job right there....whoever has it.

I've used marijuana on and off for most of my adult life. I have raised a family and now have 3 grandchildren.  I've always worked, paid taxes, and paid my bills.  I think there have been times when smoking a big fat joint has helped to keep me from going off the deep end on someone.   I've seen what alcohol does first hand.   I've watched lives destroyed.  My father was a 4 pack a day cig smoker.  He died of lung cancer at age 40.  When he was going through chemo, he would go to one of my friends to get pot, so that he could have an appetite and be able to eat.  Pot didn't save his life, but it sure made the last few months of it a lot easier.  I've never heard of anyone overdosing on marijuana, but I had a cousin who died of alcohol poisoning at age 22. What a waste.  Legalizing marijuana would  free up our judicial system quite a bit, and give a nice healthy boost to our economy.  People say that they don't want it accessible to their children..  New Flash!!  It's already accessible to them.  Oh and by the way, so is alcohol and cigs.   Right now your kids are going to god knows who to get pot.  And the same drug dealers that are making pot accessible to them are also making stronger, more addictive and more harmful drugs accessible as well.  I don't even know why they even classify marijuana as a drug.  America, quit believing the lies!!  Marijuana is not evil.  It's a wonderful god given herb that helps a lot of people.  I'm not pushing for medical use only.  I'm pushing for total decriminalization of marijuana.   I know a lot of folks here in alabama who would use marijuana if they didn't have to worry about getting in trouble or losing their jobs.   I have a very stressful job.  It's hard to deal with at times.  I could go to the Doctor and Get Zanax prescribed for me.  That's highly addictive.  I would much rather just smoke a joint.  Peace

I have been suffering for 3 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Took the doctors a year to even figure out what was wrong with me. They have been treating me for the past 2 years I am no better today then I was 2 years ago! I loose count of the pain pills I take a day due to the extreme pain  I am in daily and the over the counter pain remedies! My hands and wrists hurt so bad I can't wash my hair or brush it. I can't hold a toothbrush in my hands. My ankles give out and I just fall. My shoulders feel like my arms have been ripped off..My knees hurt so bad they wake me up at night when I roll over.. I could go on and on ... I am 48 years old and people in their 80's get around easier then I do! I agree with legalizing medical marijuana so that EVERYONE can make their OWN choices if they do or do not want to use it as a form of medical treatment! I for one would. The pill pushers don't want to allow something like an herb to put them out of business so instead they just keep pushing their pills when they  know they are slowly killing us!! I know they will probably never legalize it in Alabama in my life time which is very sad due to the fact that it could and would help so many like me. Even my aunt mentioned it to me this week about the use of marijuana my reply was ' it is not legal in Alabama " . I have not been one to do things outside the law but after suffering for 3 years I am about ready to try it even it is not legal which I think is VERY sad!! Legalize it and if you choose not to use it for a remedy so be it but at least give others a chance to make their OWN CHOICES !!!

iI had back surgery and the docs put me on all kinds of meds,, i lost alot of me back then,, now im glad to say that since trying marijuana,, i never have to take pain pills again,,its my body,, its my rite,, docs couldnt relive the pain but GOD did,, and to all the ppl out there wanting it just to get high,, quit trying to help,, we need this for medical reasons,,,, so please help us,, thanks again

wake up people for the first time do something that moves this state out of the stoneage. i had rather smoke marijuana than man made drugs which have more side effects than stars in the sky.
